This study, rooted in the Bihari refugee camp in Bangladesh, seeks to underscore the universality of WASH concerns. Methods Using a cross‐sectional design and a structured questionnaire, we conducted a meticulous evaluation of WASH practices with 313 participants selected through random sampling. Results Findings shows the water practice, among all of them, only 4.8% of the respondents were very happy with the water supply system and 16.0% of the respondents were happy with this. A total of 29.7% of the respondents were satisfied with safe drinking water and only 4.8% of the respondents were very satisfied with safe drinking water. Regarding the hygiene practice, among all respondents, 10.2% of them were satisfied with using the same bathroom by multiple people. Only 5.4% respondents were happy in their living environment. Regarding sanitation practice, only 31.3% had private toilet facilities. Among all of the respondents, 13.7% of the respondents were satisfied with using the same toilet by multiple people. Respondents who were illiterate (p < 0.01) and self‐employed (p < 0.04) were satisfied with the water supply. Similarly, respondents who were illiterate (p < 0.03) and self‐employed (p < 0.00) were satisfied with safe drinking water. Respondents who were illiterate (p < 0.02) and whose monthly income was below 8000 BDT (p < 0.00) were satisfied using same bathroom by multiple people. Respondents who were self‐employed (p < 0.01), whose monthly income 8000–12,000 BDT (p < 0.01) and having single room (p < 0.00) were satisfied using the same toilet by multiple people. Conclusion Enhanced access to safe WASH facilities, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of the study's findings, have the potential to serve as vital signposts for the development and implementation of policies and interventions.Item Designing Dashboard for Exploring Tourist Hotspots in Bangladesh(23rd International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT), IEEE, 2021-04-06) Islam, Md Tariqul; Akter, Sanjita; Kawser, Mohsina; Islam, Md RafiqulTourism is a popular recreational activity among the people of Bangladesh. For the limited resources in a specific tourist place, people face many difficulties when visiting a place at a certain time. This is because of the lack of information that might have helped a person to make a decision that could have improved their traveling experience. To address this issue, we have designed a simple and easy-to-understand dashboard for exploring tourist hotspots in Bangladesh. First, we’ve collected data from various people and analyzed which information would be beneficial for future tourists. We presented t hose pieces of information on an interface that visualizes map, line, pie, and bar chart. We conclude with a comparison of the features with other dashboards similar to ours, which provides evidence about the usefulness of our dashboard and points toward further design improvements. Our dashboard will also benefit the authorities responsible for maintaining the proper management of tourist hotspots by providing summarized information.Item Distance teaching-learning during Covid-19 in one NGO school in Dhaka(BRAC University, 2021-10) Tasbiha, Muzahida; Islam, Md TariqulLike many other usual ways of life, COVID-19 had a profound impact on Bangladesh's education sector and worldwide. From the beginning of the pandemic along with many other countries, the Government of Bangladesh also announced a complete shutdown all over the country. Many people in this country live below the poverty line, and can hardly afford their daily meals and other necessities. In this scenario, the government couldn't implement onlinebased teaching-learning in all educational institutions. Along with other reasons poverty, lack of devices and digital literacy, and lack of proper teacher’s training were the main reasons behind not being able to implement distance teaching. Many private educational institutions have initiated online teaching-learning methods to continue the studies of their students. The main sufferers were the students from government primary schools, low-cost NGOs and private schools and schools in remote areas. In this context, the research explores the practices of distance teaching-learning in an NGO school that was in operation from the beginning of the pandemic. Most of the students of this school are from very underprivileged backgrounds, and more than 80% of them had no access to smartphones. Through the research questions the study finds how this low-cost NGO school managed to continue distance teaching-learning despite the lack of trained teachers, device unavailability for the students and no preparation of the school. Following a qualitative research approach the study investigates the practice of distance teaching-learning from both the teachers’ and students’ perspective. The findings of the research show that despite having many constraints, the school continued distance teaching-learning through phone calls, assignments, oral examination and building proper guidelines. Moreover, all the teachers have learnt and developed many skills throughout the process which helped them to implement new initiatives. The study results create a new way to think alternative ways of providing education to all in any unexpected situation like the pandemic. Finally, the study suggests giving importance to the teachers and students to achieve digital literacy, and the government to provide free internet to all educational institutions.Item Effect of Dietary Maize Substitution with Potato Meal on the Productive Performance and Carcass Characteristics in Broiler Chicken(A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Animal and Poultry Nutrition Department of Animal Science and Nutrition Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, 2018-06) Islam, Md TariqulPotato meal (PM) is used as a source of dietary carbohydrate substitution with maize in broiler chicken. One hundred and twenty Ross-308 unsexed day old broiler chicks were used in a 28-day trial to investigate the effects of different levels of PM on productive performance and carcass characteristics in commercial broiler. Birds were randomly distributed into four dietary treatment groups designated as T0, T1, T2, and T3 which were supplemented with 0, 20, 30, and 40% PM for T0, T1, T2 and T3 treatment groups, respectively. The results showed that there were no significant differences in feed conversion ratio, survivability rate and dressing percentage among the treatment groups of broiler up to 40 % of maize with potato. Results also show that fat percentage is less in potato meal based diets which could be beneficial for human health. This results suggest that potato meal might be included up to 40% as substitute of maize in broiler diet without having any negative effects. It can be assuped that the findings of this study come significantly contribute to the country where the maize production is not as large as that of potato.Item Inclusive education: inclusion of children with disabilities in Government Primary Schools (GPS) in Dhaka(BRAC University, 2022-10) Hanif, Md.; Islam, Md TariqulThere have been numerous modifications to Bangladesh's educational system in the past two decades. Among those, one of the significant initiatives is implementing inclusive education for children with disabilities in the mainstream school setup. Numerous initiatives have been taken under different programs to encourage inclusive education for children with disabilities in primary education. This study was conducted to understand the current scenario of inclusion of children with disability in government primary schools in Dhaka, learn how to implement inclusive education, and find out the challenges. Additionally, understand the stakeholder views on inclusive education for children with disabilities. To analyze qualitative data approach was taken and involved participants purposively. The method was the open-ended interview, FGD, school observation, and informal discussion. The study found that administrative processes, infrastructural facilities, and teaching-learning processes are inappropriate for ensuring inclusive education for children with disabilities. Though few students enrolled in the school due to the facilities gap in the support system, they became virtually excluded and finally dropped out from the system. This study also found that teachers are not capable enough to ensure inclusiveness in the classroom due to the unavailability of teachers' training on the issue. Interestingly, the teachers and stakeholders are highly optimistic about children with disabilities and inclusive education.Item Remote teaching-learning processes during the school closure of Covid-19 outbreak in some selected primary schools in Dhaka city(BRAC University, 2021-10) Rema, Rechel Auditi; Islam, Md TariqulThe highly contagious nature of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) forced the Bangladeshi government to shut down all the educational institutions since March 18, 2020. This prolonged closure not only caused interruption of in-person schooling but also increased anxiety and uncertainty among them. The present study aimed to explore the perception of the teachers, students and parents regarding remote teaching-learning process as an emergency response to reduce the study gap during COVID-19 pandemic. With a semistructured interview guide, data for this qualitative study were collected from 12 purposively selected participants (teachers, students and parents) who are associated with government primary schools, using telephone and Zoom interviews. Result suggested that participants are satisfied with the ongoing remote teaching-learning process considering the practices as an emergency response to the sudden school closure. However, participants (teachers, students and parents) also expressed their dissatisfaction based on the challenges they have faced due to scarcity of the resources, and unequal accesses and opportunities for all. Participants shared their views on Zoom platform as the best modality in remote teaching-learning process due to the opportunity of video interaction. Very few teachers were found to take short examination remotely; instead they are assessing the students through the given home works and home assignments. The paper concludes with few recommendations such as providing digital devices to the teachers and students to participate in remote class; facilitate rigorous training to enhance technology-based skills and capacities of the teachers and students; inclusion of a robust monitoring and evaluation system for the successful implementation of remote teaching-learning initiatives and development of the blended teaching-learning framework in the education system according to the context and the socioeconomic status of the beneficiaries to get the expected outcome in terms of designing effective remote teaching-learning programs and strategies during any emergency situation.Item Supplier relationship management in public procurement of Bangladesh: the case of Information and communication Technology (ICT) division(BRAC University, 2022-08) Islam, Md Tariqul; Hoque, Md. Mosta GausulThe Public Procurement Act, 2006 and the Public Procurement Rules, 2008 have laid down impartial, unrestricted, and nondiscriminatory provisions for the public procurement of Bangladesh through open competition among potential suppliers. The e-GP guidelines also encouraged supplier relationship management to achieve better performance in public procurement. The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division fully complies with all legal requirements for conducting public procurement processes using allocated public money. The division follows clear guidelines applicable to the procuring officers and potential suppliers. The supplier relationship management framework has enabled the division to achieve better performance in public procurement. The division strived to achieve accountability, transparency, and efficiency in all its activities. The utilization of information technology is playing an important role to achieve the service excellence of the division. This service deals with every citizen of our country. By using this service an individual can store all his necessary data in a particular place. There will be information about tourism places, park, hotel resort, historical places etc. Many people in Bangladesh enjoy capturing the visual, historical, and experiential contexts that landmarks offer as they travel. These individuals, however, use disjoint resources to plan trips, reducing the quality of the narrative experience they receive when visiting a place. To facilitate the narrativization of a place and create a shared experience of that place, I created an Android smartphone application, which allows users to explore basic facts, photographs, historical details, and travelers’ experiences. Citizens and foreign tourist are expected to be benefited through this service. We have done this project by using is, Android Studio, XML, Language: JAVA, Database: Firebase. After execution, the system is tested in various circumstances and it is proved effective as a demo application.
