    A compact disc-shaped super wideband patch antenna with a structure of parasitic element

    In this paper, a disc-shaped monopole antenna has been investigated for super-wideband applications with a structure of parasitic element. The proposed SWB antenna consists of disc-shaped patch and a partial ground plane with a structure of parasitic element. The parasitic element consists of 4 rectangular embedded slots on the ground plane. This parasitic element on the ground plane leads the UWB frequency band into the SWB frequency band. This proposed SWB antenna is fed by a microstrip line and is printed on low dielectric FR4 material of 1.6 mm thickness. All the simulations are performed using commercially available, finite element method (FEM) based Ansoft high-frequency structure simulator (HFSS) software and CST Microwave Studio. Measured results exhibit that the proposed disc-shaped antenna shows a wide bandwidth which covers from 2.90 GHz to more than 20 GHz, with a compact dimension of 25 mm × 33 mm for VSWR < 2, observing a SWB frequency. A good combination is noticed between simulation and measurement. The simple construction, sharply, surface current flow, much impedance bandwidth, nearly omnidirectional radiation patterns, stable peak gain (3.20-6.22 dBi) and a considerable bandwidth dimension ratio (≥ 2062. 22) are a good deal sounder than the existing super wideband antennas which make it appropriate for many wireless communication systems such as L, C, X, UWB, Ku, and SWB bands.     EFFECT OF SPACING AND K20 ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF BROCCOLI (Brassica oleracea L. var. italica)

    The experiment was conducted at Honiculture Farm. Sher-e-Bangia Agricultural University. Dhaka, during October 2007 to February 2008. The experiment was consisted of two factors, viz. three levels of spacing such as 60 ern x 40 em; 60 cm x 50 emand 60 em x 60 em and four levels of K20 such as 0; 60; 90 and 120 kg/ha fertilizer application. Results revealed that different spacing and K20 levels significantly influenced on growth parameters and yield of broccoli. The maximum plant height, number of leaves. primary curd weight, secondary curd weight and yield per plant were recorded from the widest spacing but the highest yield (14.02 t/ha) was recorded from the closest spacing. On the other hand, all the parameters under study showed better performance with the application of 120 kg KzO/ha. The highest yield (14.70 t/ha) was obtained from this treatment. Combined effect of the closest spacing and the highest dose of K,O also gave the highest yield (16.61 t/ha). The results suggested that 60 cm x 40 em spacing akng wilh 120 kg K,O/ha may be used for higher yield of broccoli.

    EFFECT OF SPACING ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF DIFFERENT VARIETIES OF KNOL-KHOL

    The experiment was conducted at Honiculture Farm, Sher-e-Bangia Agricultural University, Dhaka, during October 20 I0 to January 2011. The experiment was consisted of two factors, viz. lour varieties of Knol-khol (White Vienna, Big Ball, UFO and Early 005) and three spacing (30 em x 15 em, 30 ern x 20 ern, 30 em x 25 em). Result revealed that different varieties significantly influenced on growth parameter and yield of knollkhol. The maximum gross yield (74.93 t/ha) was recorded from the variety White Vienna. The maximum marketable yield (55.38 tlha) of Knol-khol was also obtained from the variety White Vienna. Different spacing also influenced significantly on most of the parameters under study. The spacing 30 em x 20 em showed better performances and the highest gross yield (66.28 tlha) as well as the highest marketable yield (48.32 tlha) were obtained from this spacing. Interaction effect of different varieties and spacing had a signiticant variation on yield contributing characters and yield of Knol-khol. White Vienna and spacing 30 cm x 20 cm gave the maximum gross yield (80.26 t/ha) and also the maximum marketable yield (59.90 t/ha). So the treatment combination White Vienna with 30 em x 20 em spacing is suitable for the maximum yield of Knol-khol.

    GENETIC DIVERSITY OF LEMON GENOTYPES ASSESSED BY ISOZYMES

    An experiment was carried out at the department of Horticulture, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to investigate genetic diversity of 73 lemon genotypes using three isozymes viz, glutamate oxaloacetate transminase (GOT), malate dehydrogenase (MDH) and peroxidase (PER) isozymes during 2006-2007. All the isozymes, used in the present study showed polymorphism for lemon. A total of 25 different electrophoretic zymotypes were observed for three isozymes studied. Eight zymotypes with GOT, 10 with MDH and 7 with PER were formed by 22, 39, 12 bands at different Rf values. respectively. A dandogram was constructed and 73 lemon genotypes were grouped into nine clusters, the genotypes collected from same location were grouped in different clusters, indicating existance of variability within single location. The result revealed that isozymes are useful genetic marker for variability analysis of lemon and other species of Citrus.

    MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF LEMON GERMPLASMS

    Lemon (Citrus limon L.) is one of the most popular fruit crop under the genus Citrus. The genus Citrus is the world's leading tree-fruit crop belongs to the subfamily Aurantioidae, family Rutaceae and order Sapindales, Different hypotheses have been formulated on the origin of Citrus. In general, Citrus is believed to have originated in the tropical and subtropical regions of Southeast Asia and then spread to other continents. Hodgson (J 967) reported that lemon is originated in north eastern India and Burma and grown throughout the world. Compared to other lemon producing countries of the world, the production of lemon in Bangladesh is very low due to lack of proper attention for varietal improvement. There are many genotypes of lemon having diverse characters in different parts of the country. Those genotypes are available in the market without any uniformity and standardization in nomenclature. Characterization of existing lemon germplasm may create a good opportunity for the breeder in the improvement of the crop. The present study is carried out in aiming to infer the genetic variability and thus ensuring proper utilization of available gennplusm.

    Second Order Biases and Mean Squared Errors of Some Estimators Using Single Auxiliary Variable

    The ratio, product, chain ratio, chain product, chain regression and ratio-cum product estimators have been considered by Chand (1975), Kiregyera (1980, 1984), Upadhyaya et. al. (1990, 1992), Srivastava et. al. (1990), Prasad et. al. (1992), Sahoo and Sahoo (1993), Singh (1993). Most of them discussed these estimators along with their first order bias and mean square error. In this paper, we have tried to find out the second order biases and mean square errors of these estimators based on simple random sampling. Finally, we have compared the performance of these estimators with some numerical illustration.s.
