dc.description.abstractThis study explores parental perceptions of positive parenting and the view of its implementation in the early years of childhood within Bangladesh. Positive parenting, characterized by nurturing, supportive, and empathetic caregiving, plays a pivotal role in fostering children’s emotional, social, and cognitive development. Employing a qualitative research approach, this study collects data through In-Depth Interviews (IDIs) and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with 18(eighteen) parents in Dhaka. Findings reveal that parents conceptualize positive parenting as an approach focused on understanding and fulfilling children's unique developmental needs while fostering mutual respect and communication. Participants highlight the role of various practices, such as active listening, storytelling, and play-based activities, in creating supportive environments for children. However, the study identifies key challenges, including limited access to structured parenting resources, the absence of child-friendly recreational spaces, and societal pressures to conform to traditional parenting methods. These barriers restrict opportunities for parents to fully implement positive parenting strategies. This study provides valuable insights into the evolving practices and challenges of positive parenting in Bangladesh, aiming to contribute to the enhancement of culturally aligned parenting strategies. The findings have significant implications for educators, policymakers, and child development professionals seeking to support parents in nurturing optimal growth and development during early childhood.
