EFFECTS OF PARASITIC INFESTATION ON CONCURRENT BLOOD PARAMETER IN CATTLE REARING UNDER CONVENTIONAL FARMING SYSTEM

Abstract

The experiment was conducted on a total of 60 cross bred cattle, which were reared under conventional farming system. The cattle were of either sex and aged between 1 and 2 years. The animals were divided randomly into three equal groups as control groups (T01, T02, T03 and T04), liver fluke infected groups (T11, T12, T13 and T14) and gastrointestinal nematode infected groups (T21, T22, T23 and T24). Total 12 (4+4+4) subgroups of 3 groups (control groups, liver fluke infected groups and gastrointestinal nematode infected groups) were consist with the equal number of cattle (n=5). Where the liver fluke (Fasciola gigantica) and gastrointestinal nematode were naturally infected in the experimental farm. The cattle of control group were apparently healthy and treated with combined drug of Triclabendazole and Levamisol HCL. Control group had higher TEC, Hb concentration and PCV comparing with infected ones but ESR and TLC had lower in control group than infected groups. The TEC of liver fluke and gastrointestinal nematodes infected group had significantly (P<0.05) lower values compare to control group. The Hb level and PCV% of liver fluke and gastrointestinal nematode infected group had significantly (P<0.01) lower values compare to control group. The ESR and TLC of liver fluke infected group and gastrointestinal nematodes infected group showed significantly (P<0.01) increased value than compare to control group. It is concluded that the larvae of liver fluke that harbor in the liver and the gastrointestinal nematodes that harbor in the stomach and intestine, which were induces a great change in the hematological parameters of cattle resulting the phenomena of anemia.
