dc.description.abstractThe experiment was conducted in the farm of the Department of Horticulture, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur Bangladesh, during the period from November to February, 2017 to investigate the effects of nitrogen and potassium on growth and yield of French bean. The experiment consisted of four nitrogen levels, viz., 0, 50, 100 and 150 kg N/ha; and four potassium levels, 0, 40, 80 and 120 kg K2O/ha. The seeds were sown on 29 November 2016, and the beans were harvested on different dates from 15 February to 21 February, 2017 depending on maturity. Nitrogen had significant effect on all yield attributes and yield of French bean. Application of 150 kg N/ha produced the highest pod yield (6.53 ton/ha) through increasing plant height, number of compound leaves per plant, length of green pod, diameter of green pod, number of seed per pod and weight of fresh pods per plant. Maximum yield of French bean was obtained from 120 kg k2O/ha. The combinations of nitrogen and potassium showed marked effect on most of the parameters studied. A combination of 150 kg N and 120 kg K2O/ha gave the highest yield of French bean (6.65 ton/ha).
