A Security Analysis on MQTT Protocol of IoT

Abstract

The Internet of things is currently a buzzword in the modern technology era. Over the years, the Internet of Things has become a part of our lives. For their integral behavior, many companies and solutions are built upon it. Though many solutions have been developed to meet the needs, security issues are still overlooked. MQTT is one of the most used protocols in the IoT world because of its performance, battery-friendliness. However, as many companies use this protocol to make their products, security is one of the significant issues of this protocol. In this report, we will take a look at the security issues of the MQTT protocol and analyze them for future researchers and studies. We will discuss some common vulnerabilities that are still not fixed or up to the developers’ choice to implement security solutions that have been overlooked over the years. We will also discuss how researchers should approach the IoT security issues and provide a methodology for interacting with modern-day IoT protocols.
