Isolation and Identification of Bacterial Infection with Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) in Black Bengal Goat at Chittagong District of Bangladesh

Abstract
This study was carried out to determine the secondary bacterial infection with Peste des Petits Ruminamts (PPR) in Black Bengal goat at Chittagong district of Bangladesh from October 2011 to April 2012. The study population comprised of 50 PPR infected Black Bengal goats, where, 23 were male and 27 were female. Clinical history and signs were observed for screening of the study population. Nasal swabs were collected from the PPR infected goats. The samples were inoculated onto culture media. Gram staining and Giemsa staining along with some bio-chemical tests were performed to identify the kinds of bacteria. Gram Positive Bacilli found to be 48% in male goat, whereas, 52% in female goat. From the PPRV infected goat, Staphylococcus SPP. was found to be similar in both male and female that constituted for 22%. There was somewhat increased number of Gram-negative bacteria found in male goat that made 30%, whereas, in female goat it was 26%. Pasteurella SPP. from male and female goat in this study was 4% and 11% respectively. This result showed that, in all cases different types of bacterial infection associated with PPR in goat, underscoring the need for further studies including specific species and biovar determination, and their antibiotic sensitivity
