INVESTIGATION OF BOVINE TUBERCULOSIS (LOCAL AND CROSSBRED CATTLE) IN SYLHET DISTRICT OF BANGLADESH

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate bovine tuberculosis in cattle at Sylhet District in Bangladesh by Caudal Fold Tuberculin test using bPPD (bovine purified protein derivatives). Total 100 cattles from different location of Sylhet district were tested. A Total of 10,12,1,6 and 8 farms were investigated at Jointapur, Bishonath, Zilla Dugdha Khamar- Sylhet, Golapgonj and Beanibazar respectively for Caudal Fold Tuberculin test. The numbers of cattle were 20, 14, 18, 18 and 30 from Sylhet Zilla dugdha khamar, different dairy farms of Golapgonj, Beanibazar, Jointapur and Bishonath Upazilla, respectively. Positive cases were found in Jointapur and Bishonath. One case was positive in Jointapur out of 18 cattles (5.55%) and two cases were positive in Bishonath out of 30 cattles (6.66%). Out of 41males, 1 positive case was found (2.44%). Out of 59 females, 2 positive cases were found (3.39%). In relation to age 3 positive cases were found between 5-7 years age of cattle. In case of breed, out of 60 local cattles, two positive cases found (3.33%) and out of 40 crossbred 1 positive case was found (2.5%). The percentage of total positive reactors was 3% out of 100 cattles tested in Caudal Fold Tuberculin test.
