dc.description.abstractA study of skin diseases of domesticated ruminants (cattle & goat) were carried out at Upazilla Veterinary Hospital (UVH) under sadar thana veterinary hospital of Nilphamari district from 27th June to 27th August in 2010.It also done in at Milk Producers Co-operative Union Ltd(MPCUL) area from 5th to 14th February in 2011,at Shahajadpur upazilla in Sirajgonj district. Among 536 domesticated ruminants 354 cattle and 182 goats of which 20.9% cattle and 23.07% goat were found to be affected with skin diseases. The prevalence of skin diseases were lice infestation, mite infestation (mange), hump sore (stephanofilariasis), alopecia, maggot wound, dermatophytosis, contagious ecthyma, yoke gall and burn found in ruminants (cattle and goat). Among different types of skin diseases lice infestation were 37.0%, mite infestation (mange) 21.5%, alopecia 18.1%, dermatophytosis 5.17%, maggot wound 4.3%, yoke gall 4.3%, Contagious ecthyma 3.44%, Papillomatosis 2.58%, hump sore 2.5%, Burn 0.86%. The variation of skin diseases may be variable due to host specificity of the causal agent, age resistance, ecological status, livelihood of the people of the locality, hygienic measures taken by the farmers and the seasonal factors of the year.
