Abstract

Vibration is an inevitable occurrence in any structure. The effect of vibration however can be devastating. It can cause stark premature failure incurring huge cost for replacement or repair. Nevertheless if the vibration characteristics can be accurately predicted such incident can be avoided. This work presents an investigation on vibration characteristics of a rectangular plate. The Finite Element Method (FEM) is employed to obtain the eigenvalues of natural frequencies of vibration for two opposite end welded condition and also for four ends bolted condition of an immovable rectangular plate. Numerical results obtained by this method are compared with those obtained by theoretical and experimental method. It has been found that there is a strong conformation within the results obtained by FEM, theoretical and empirical analysis.
