Abstract

An experiment was conducted during March to May, 2018 at Research field of Crop Physiology and Ecology Department, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur, Bangladesh to assess the effect of GA3 on growth, flowering, yield and yield contributing traits in cucumber. The experiment consisted of two factors: Factor A: Two growing conditions (control and foliar application of GA3); Factor B: Four cucumber varieties (Shohag, Sarothi, Sufala-1 and Shila). Total eight treatments were implemented in Randomized Complete Block Design and replicated thrice. Foliar application of GA3 @ 300 ppm was found significantly superior in terms of growth, flowering and yield and yield attributing traits i.e. vine length (cm), number of nodes plant-1, internodal distance (cm), number of tendrils plant-1, number of primary branches plant-1, length of 1st branch (cm), number of leaves plant-1, days to first flower and 50% flowers formation, number of male and female flower plant-1, number of fruits plant-1, individual fruit weight (g), fruit yield plant-1 (kg) and yield (t ha-1) as compared to control. Overall the impact of above observation, the highest fruit yield (24.7 t ha-1) of cucumber was recorded in variety Sufala-1 and minimum yield (21.61 t ha-1) was recorded in variety Sarothi under foliar application of GA3. Moderate yield was recorded from rest two varieties (24.13 t ha-1 in Shila and 22.67 t ha-1 in Shohag).
