A Case Report on Surgical Correction of Urolithiasis by Cystotomy in an Unspayed Persian Cat

Abstract

Urolithiasis is a common and clinically significant disorder in cats, often leading to lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD) with severe complications. This case report was aimed for the surgical management of urolithiasis in an unspayed female Persian cat, who was presented with hematuria and dysuria. Diagnostic imaging, including ultrasonography and radiography, confirmed the presence of calculi. After failure of medical management with dissolution therapy, a cystotomy was performed to remove the urolith from the urinary bladder. The procedure involved the removal of the uroliths, along with concurrent ovariohysterectomy. Postoperative care included antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment, as well as recommendations for dietary modifications. Followup examinations, conducted 8 days post-surgery, revealed no complications, and the cat was discharged in good health.
