DIETARY INCLUSION OF COMPOSITE ENZYME AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO ANTIBIOTIC ON THE PERFORMANCE OF BROILER CHICKEN

Abstract

The present work aimed at studying growth performance, carcass traits and health status of broiler chicken feed enzyme over a period of 4 weeks. A total of 200-dayold Lohmann broiler were randomly assigned to five treatment groups, each with four replicates (10). T 1 , T 2 was control and antibiotic. whereas T 3 , T 4 , T 5 was provided as 0.05%, 0.1% and 0.15% of enzyme respectively. The results revealed significant (P<0.05) difference in feed intake (T 2 -2197.00±30.20 g and T 5 -2324.75±19.76 g) and live weight (T 5 -1937.5±17.97 g and T 2 -1808.00±23.68 g). There is no significance in FCR value & livability. The flock uniformity percent were significant. In control group T 1 (78.25±2.29) was average and other groups were uniformed. Highest hemoglobin (T 5 -9.12±0.18g/dl), RBC (T 2 -3.97±0.09 mill/cum), WBC (T 1 -14.48±0.74 mill/cum), lymphocytes (T 1 -38.50%), Monocytes (T 5 -2.25±.25 %), Platelets (T 3- 31.25±0.63x10 4 /mm 3 ), PCV (T 5- 28.48%), MCV (T 5 -87.74±0.25 FI), MCH (T 4 -28.77 Pg.) were found in the enzyme treated groups, which is an indication of good health. E. coli and salmonella spp. count was significantly (P<0.05) lower in birds fed 0.15% enzyme supplemented diet and with a descending order of 0.1% and 0.05% enzyme level. Salmonella spp. and E. Coli count was also significantly (p<0.05) higher in birds fed control. The results of the study demonstrate the beneficial effects of supplementing enzyme on body weight and dressed yield in the treated groups in broiler chicken. Enzyme is therefore, suggested to be used as an alternative to antibiotics of broiler chicken ration for higher profitability.
