Abstract
The status of English as a language in Bangladesh is somewhere between foreign and second language. It plays a significant role for the students of all classes. At the same time, learning English is compulsory not only for academic purposes but also for everyday life. As English is not our native language, the learners use different and individual learning strategies while learning English. In 2015, Madrasha education board added two hundred marks for English and made it compulsory for the secondary level students. This is why now the students are more serious about
learning English than before. The paper, in this regard, focuses on learning strategies used by Madrasha students and the type of difficulties they face while applying the strategies. Through questionnaire, interview, focused group discussion the researcher tried to find out what strategies they are using, in what areas they were using them, and what difficulties were there while applying the strategies for the students from Madrasha of secondary level. Besides, this study also highlights the most common as well as popular strategies used by the students.
