dc.description.abstractThis paper presents the development of Single Machine Infinite Bus System (SMIB) model for transient stability studies with a detailed synchronous machine model and a Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage Unit (SMES) in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. The proposed SIMULINK model is very simple to understand and also computationally efficient in order to connect with external networks and for extending to a multi-machine power system. Two-axis model of synchronous machine, along with turbine- governor system and excitation system are included to evaluate the transient stability of the system, when three-phase fault on the transmission line occurs with different clearing times at different locations of the line. The simulation results show an accurate performance of the model developed for stability studies.
