Staphylococci are the most frequent bacterial pathogen isolated from Cat. Staphylococcus pseudintermedius are the common colonizers in cat. Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (MRSP) has a significant health impact on general people and pet owners. In this study we investigated the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of Staphylococcus pseudintermedius in cat presented at Shahedul Alam Quadree Teaching Veterinary Hospital (SAQTVH). A total of 50 swab samples were collected from oral and perineal sites of 25 cat registered to the SAQTVH from 06 November, 2018 to 22 November, 2018. Standard bacteriological methods were followed for the isolation and identification of S. pseudintermedius. The identification of S. pseudintermedius was confirmed by the presence of pse genes by polymerase chain reactiom(PCR).The isolates were tested for susceptibility to 10 antimicrobials to determine the antimicrobial resistance phenotype. . S.pseudintermedius isolates were detected in 2 of 50 tested samples (4%). These two isolates were found to be resistant to multiple antimicrobials. This study gives evidence for the presence of S. pseudintermedius in cats in Chattogram region and their antimicrobial resistance profiles. The information can be used as a basis for further implementation of large-scale research on S. pseudintermedius colonization in cats in Bangladesh.
