Abstract

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation of Moringa oleifera leaf meal as an alternative for an antibiotic on growth performance, mortality, carcass yields and blood profile of broiler chicken. For this purpose a total of 90 day old, unsexed (Cob 500) broiler chicks were collected from a local agent of Nourish Poultry and Hatchery Ltd. The chicks were randomly divided into three experimental groups namely To, T1, T2. Each group contained 30 chicks in complete randomized design. Two levels of Moringa oleifera leaf meal (1% and 3%) were fed during the experimental period for 35 days duration. Growth performance and health status were recorded. Finally birds were slaughtered and dressed. The treatment effect on average final body weight gain, feed intake, feed efficiency were significant (P<0.05). Birds fed on MOLM gained significantly (P<0.05) higher body weight and efficient feed efficiency than birds fed the control diet. The birds used with MOLM also showed higher antibody level than the birds of control group. However, birds fed on (3% MOLM) diet showed higher body weight with efficient feed efficiency. There was no pathological change in the internal organs of the broiler within the treated groups and mortality rate was none. Inclusion of MOLM in broiler diets significantly (P<0.05) different hot and cold eviscerated carcass.
