Applying electrode potential, tape water and waste water (Dhanmondi Lake’s Water) were treated using platinum electrode in a three-electrode and double compartment electrolysis cell system. Various electrolysis conditions such as electrode, electrolytes, potential (applying voltage) and electrolysis time were optimized. Stainless steel and platinum electrode, 3 V to 7 V potential, NaCl, Na2SO4 & H2SO4 electrolytes and 1 Hr to 3 Hr contact time were studied for the treatment of tape water. Water quality parameters such as pH, Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), Total Hardness, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) of tape water were measured for optimization. After optimizing, waste water of Dhanmondi Lake was treated. Satisfactory results regarding Total Hardness, Conductivity, DO, COD and BOD compare to Bangladesh Standard and United States Public Health (USPH) Standard were observed.
