Abstract
Pulmonary fibrosis is an incurable end-stage lung disease that continues to be a global public health issue. Although some advances have been made in understanding the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis, effective intervention methods remain limited.
Natural products contain numerous biological activities and a high level of safety, which are essential elements in the prevention and treatment of pulmonary fibrosis. We summarized the processes and health advantages of natural products against pulmonary fibrosis in this review. These natural products target oxidative stress, inflammatory injury, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), fibroblast activation, extracellular matrix accumulation, and metabolic regulation via pathways involving the TGF-β Signaling pathway, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, modulation of Cellular Signaling pathway and Inhibition of ECM deposition. We hope to develop novel methods for preventing and treating pulmonary fibrosis.
