Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Farm. Dhaka during the period from December 2007 to March 2008 to study the role of sulphur and boron alone and combined on the growth, yield of BAR! wheat 22 (Sufee) (Triticurn aestivurn I..). The experiment included four levels of sulphur viz.. 0, 10.20 and 30 kg Sha' and four levels of boron viz., 0,0.5. 1 and 2kg B hi 1 . The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Sulphur showed significant effect on yield and yield attributes of wheat. Application of sulphur @ 30 kg ha' produced the highest seed yield, plant height, number of tillers planf', spike length, number of effective spikelets spike -'. 1000-seed weight, straw yield. In all the cases lower response was found from the control treatment. Boron fertilizer also had significant effect on yield and yield attributes of wheat. Application of boron 'd, 1 kg hi' gave the highest seed yield, plant height, number of tillers plani', spike length, number of effective spikelets spike -', 1000-seed weight, straw yield but in all cases the lower response was found from the control treatment. Sulphur @ 30 kg ha' was found statistically superior to all other treatments. Sulphur in combination with boron showed significant effect on yield and yield attributes of wheat. Sulphur @ 30 kg hi' and boron @ I kg hi' resulted the highest seed yield, plant height, straw yield, number of effective spikelets spike -].. 1000-seed weight and total uptake of S and B by wheat. On the other hand, in all the cases lower response was found from the control treatment. The addition of S and B not only increased the yield but also protect the soil from total exhaustion of nutrients.
