EFFECT OF DIFFERENT COMPOSTED PLANT SPECIES ON WATER STRESS EFFECT OF WHEAT

Abstract

A pot experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka from November 2021 to March 2022 in Rabi season to study the effect of different composted plant species on water stress effect of wheat. The experiment consisted of two factors and followed a Completely Random Design (CRD) with three replications. Factor A. Different drought stress condition (2) viz I 0 = Drought imposition and I = Irrigation; and Factor B. Different composted plant materials (17) viz T 1 1 = Without biomass, T = Motor (Pisum sativum), T 3 = Chola (Cicer arietinum), T 4 2 = Maskalai (Vigna mungo), T = Khasari (Lathyrus sativus L), T 6 = Mosur (Lens culinaris), T = Sunflower (Helianthus annus L.), T 8 = Dhoncha (Sesbania bispinosa), T 9 7 = Borboti (Vigna unguiculata ssp.), T 10 = Mustard (Brassica campestris), T 11 = Canola (Brassica napus), T = Mustard green (Brassica junceae), T 13 = Mung (Vigna radiata), T 14 12 = Zirakata (Alternanthera caracasana), T 15 = Lozzaboti (Mimosa pudica), T = Wheat straw (Triticum aestivum) and T 17 16 = Rice straw (Oryza sativa). The experimental result revealed that grain yield decreased due to drought stress conditions, and the lowest grain yield plant (3.12 g) was observed in drought imposition (I ) treatment. In the case of composted plant materials, the highest mean effective tillers plant 0 -1 -1 (3.73), spike length (8.22 cm), grains spike (43.00), 1000-grain weight (41.10 g) and grain yield plant -1 (5.60 g) were observed in both stress and non-stress condition in T (Rice straw) treatment. In the case of interaction treatments, cultivation of wheat with irrigated condition (I 17 ) along with rice straw composted materials (T 17 1 ) affected plant growth and yield-contributing characteristics, leading to the maximum grain yield plant -1 (6.02 g) than compared to other interaction treatments. However, I 1 T 16 (5.86 g), I 1 T 7 (5.84 g), and I (5.74 g) interaction treatment showed statistically similar grain yield plant -1 . Therefore, it may suggested that wheat cultivation with proper irrigation, as well as soil incorporated with rice straw, wheat straw, sunflower, and khasari composted materials, would influence plant growth, retain soil moisture and nutrient content and increase its ability to enhance better wheat yield production.
