Abstract

An experiment was conducted at the Biotechnology Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Joydebpur, Gazipur on In vitro Regeneration of Ginger tZingiber officinale), The experiment was undertaken to find out the suitable combination of plant growth regulators with appropriate concentration for successful in vitro propagation of ginger from shoot tip on MS media. The explant of one genotype of ginger was cultured in MS medium with different concentrations and combinations of NAA (0. 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 mg/L) and BAP (0, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0. 4.0 mg/L) to observe the performance of regeneration. The rate of shoot multiplication was varied in different treatment combinations. The highest number of multiple shoots (7.10) was recorded in 1.0 mg/L AA + 3.0 rng/L SAP. It was the lowest (2.42) in MS medium without growth regulators. The maximum number of roots (9.61) and vigorous roots was obtained in 1.0 mg/L NAA + 3.0 mg/L BAP. Days required for shoots initiation is also influenced by NAA and BAP with different combinations. The highest number of leaves (5.72) was found in 1.0 mg/L AA + 4.0 mg/L BAP. The minimum time (20.67days) required for shoot initiation was obtained in 1.0 mg/L NAA + 3.0 mg/L BAP.
