Abstract

A study on field efficacy of some bio-rational based management approaches against fruit fly attacking sweet gourd was conducted at the research field of the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, during the period from November, 2021 to March, 2022. Some biorational management practices viz., T 1 : mass trapping of fruit flies with cuelure based sex pheromone trap, T 2 ii : azadirachtin (Fytomax 3EC), T 3 : mashed sweet gourd poison bait trap, T 4 : spinosad (Success 2.5 SC) were evaluated along with T 5 : farmers’ practice (Ripcord 10 EC) and T 6 : untreated control. Data on different parameters such as fruit infestation by number and weight, yield and others were recorded to fulfil the objectives. At flowering stage, effect of different biorationals on infestation of female flowers by fruit fly varied significantly. Considering of healthy female flowers production per plot, the highest number of healthy female flowers/plot (14.05) were recorded from T 2 treatment which was significantly different from all other treatments. Field efficiency of biorational management of fruit fly on sweet gourd was significantly different among the treatments. The highest healthy fruit yield (30.85 t/ha) was recorded from treatments T 3 which was statistically different from other treatments. The lowest healthy fruit yield (12.67t/ha) was recorded from treatments T 6 which was statistically different from all other treatments. The highest infested fruit yield (6.15 t/ha) was recorded from treatments T 6 and the lowest infested fruit yield (3.15 t/ha) obtained from the treatments T 3 which was significantly different from all other treatments. The highest total fruit yield (34.00 t/ha) was obtained from T 3 treatment and lowest total fruit yield (18.82 t/ha) from T 6 treatment. Considering all yield attributing parameters, treatment T 3 comprising mashed sweet gourd poison bait trap gave the most satisfactory result.
