Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Kholora, Haripur, Thakurgaon District, from July 2023 to October 2023 to assess the economic performance of BINA dhan17 under various distances from mango tree base as mango-rice based agroforestry system. The experiment was laid out following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three (3) replications. Total no of experimental plots were 12. The treatments of the experiment were T1=one meter distance, T2=two meter distance T3= three meter distance and T4= four meter distance of rice cultivation from the mango base tree. The data were recorded on growth and yield performance of rice. In case of economic analysis the benefits and cost ratio was calculated. The results of the research revealed the highest matured plant height significantly (133.50cm) was observed at 3 meters (T3) distance and the lowest was (125.43cm.) at 1 meter (T1) distance from mango tree base. Similarly, the number of tillers/hill showed in matured plant significant variations with T4 (8.80) recording the maximum and T1 (7.13) the minimum. The highest effective tiller/hill was (6.80) in T4 and the lowest was (5.33) in T1, while the highest non-effective tiller/hill was (2.00) in T4 and the lowest was (1.33) in T2 which was statistically similar in T3. The highest panicle length of rice was found (26.10 cm) in T4 and the lowest was (24.33) from T1. The maximum effective grain/panicle of rice (286.00) was found in T4 and the minimum (186.33) was obtained from T1. The 1000 grain weight of rice highest (24.90g) was found in T4 and the lowest (21.20g) was obtained from T1. The highest grain weight/hill of rice (29.56g) was found in T4 and the lowest (20.74g) was from T1. The highest straw/hill of rice (23.60g) was found in T2 and the lowest (21.03g) was obtained from T1. The highest grain yield of rice per hectare (9.74ton) was found in T4 and the lowest (6.65ton) was obtained from T1. The highest straw yield of rice/ha (7.86ton) was found in T2 and the lowest (7.01ton) was obtained from T1. The highest gross return (460808Tk./ha) was obtained from the mango-rice based agroforestry system and the lowest (399484Tk./ha) was obtained from open field of rice BINA dhan17. The highest net return (281264Tk./ha) was obtained from the mango-Rice based agroforestry system and the lowest (196718Tk./ha) was obtained from open filed of rice BINA dhan17. The highest benefit-cost ratio of 2.57 was recorded from the mango-rice based agroforestry system and the lowest 1.97 was observed in open field. Therefore, farmers of northern part of Bangladesh can grow BINA dhan17 with mango tree as agroforestry system maintaining at least two meters distance from mango tree base for better monetary return. Key words: mango, rice, agroforestry, tree base di
