Abstract
Coriander is one of the most important and major spices in Bangladesh as well as world.
A field experiment was conducted at the farm of Sher- E- Bangla Agricultural University,
Dhaka from November 2018 to February 2019 to examine the effect of nitrogen on the
varietal performance on coriander. The experiment consisted of two variety viz. V
=
BARI Dhonia-1 and V
= BARI Dhonia-2 and six levels of nitrogen viz. 0, 20, 40, 60, 80
and 100 kg ha
-1
2
. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design
(factorial) with three replications. There were 12 treatment combinations in all. The
BARI Dhonia-2
produced maximum number of branches per plant, number of umbel per
plant, number of seed per plant, 1000 seed weight, seed yield per plot. The highest yield
(1432.40 kg ha
-1
) was obtained from BARI Dhonia-2. The tallest plant and maximum
number of leaves plant
-1
were recorded at 60 kg N ha
-1
followed by 80 kg N ha
at
different growth stages. Application of 60 kg N ha
-1
gave the maximum branches plant
,
umbellates umbel
-1
, seed plant
-1
, 1000 seed weight, seed yield plot
-1
and seed yield
(1691.65 kg ha
-1
). Application of 60 kg N ha
-1
coupled with BARI Dhonia-2 gave the
maximum seed yield of (1699.98 kg ha
-1
). The highest concentration of N and K in post
harvest soil was recorded in the treatment combination of BARI Dhonia-2 with
application of60 kg N ha
-1
.
