A field experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e- Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh to study the correlation between pairs of different characters and the direct and indirect effect of different characters on seed yield plant -1 in seven selected genotypes of Brassica rapa L. to select the plants with higher yield potential. Yield plant -1 was highly significant and positively correlated with days to 50% flowering (r g = 0.987** and r p = 0.989**) and 80% maturity (r = 0.989** and r = 0.990**) at both genotypic and phenotypic level while the correlation was significant and positive with plant height (r p g = 0.802* and r p = 0.812*) and thousand seed weight (r g = 0.770* and r = 0.768*) indicating dependence of these characters on grain yield. Path coefficient analysis for yield plant revealed that days to 80% maturity (7.9587) exerted the highest direct effect on the yield followed by days to 50% flowering (5.4155) and plant height (2.4601). The indirect contribution of component characters viz. days to 80% maturity was high indirect effect via days to 50% flowering (5.3693) followed by number of secondary branches plant -1 via days to 80% maturity (4.0874) towards seed yield plant . Thus, the yield plant -1 in selected B. rapa genotypes could be improved by direct selection based on these traits.
