Abstract
This study was conducted during July – September, 2012 in the domestic livestock registered for treatments to the upazila livestock office at Saidpur Upajila under Nilphamary district to determine the prevalence of fascioliasis in them. Freshly voided- or directly collected feces from the rectum of an animal was examined by direct smear method and by sedimentation technique. Blood samples from some Fasciola-postive cattle, goats and sheep were collected, analyzed for key hematological parameters and compared with corresponding those that were negative for the parasite. The results show that Fascioliasis could be seen in all the age groups, although its intensity differed between different groups. Female animals had a higher prevalence compared with male. ESR and neutrophil counts are higher in the Fasciola-infested animals compared with the non-infested ones, suggesting that Fasciola-infested animals might have had dehydration, and suffered from probable secondary bacterial infections in liver parenchyma.
