CUET is one of the prominent and prestigious autonomous self‐degree awarding universities in the engineering education of Bangladesh. The Department of Civil Engineering at CUET is committed to uphold academic excellence in undergraduate and post graduate education as well as in multidisciplinary areas concerned with the design, planning and management of infrastructures and other built environment. The Department of Civil Engineering, CUET, is going to organize The 1st International Conference on Advances in Civil Engineering (ICACE) during December 12‐14, 2012. The goal of this conference is to bring together the leading academic scientists, researchers, scholars and decision makers in various fields of civil engineering from around the world to exchange new ideas, share knowledge and explore recent developments in the field of civil engineering. The proceedings of this conference contain 137 papers contributed by more than 350 authors from Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, Korea, Spain, Sweden and UK. The papers are grouped into six major thematic areas of Civil Engineering: Advanced Environmental Engineering (41 papers); Advanced Geotechnical Engineering (19 papers); Advanced Structural & Earthquake Engineering (28 papers); Advanced Transportation Engineering (29 papers); Sustainable Engineering and Management (7 papers); Integrated Water Resources Management (17 papers) We have continued our effort to make the ICACE 2012 to be an outstanding international platform for participants to share their knowledge and expertise. We financially support young researchers/students for participation to ICACE 2012 through reduced registration fee. We hope all of you enjoy this reflection of our joint achievements in this conference with ice, IABSE and IEB. We also extend sincere thanks to Confidence Cement, GPH ispat and RSRM for their support.
