The study was undertaken in four sub-zones of Shampur Sugar Mills Ltd. under Badarganj Upazila of Rangpur district aiming to determine the relationship of eleven selected characteristics with the extent of adoption of intercropping in sugarcane. A sample of l 04 farmers were selected randomly from a population of 520 sugarcane growers of the study area. Data were collected during 5th Septernber-l S'" October 2006, by using interview schedule in a face to face situation. Findings revealed that more than three-fourth (77 percent) of the respondents had low to medium adoption of intcrcropping in sugarcane. Pearson product moment correlation coefficients were computed to examine the relationships between the concerned variables. Out of eleven selected characteristics of the farmers age, education, farm size, annual family income, sugarcane cultivation knowledge, training exposure and organizational participation had significant positive relationship with their adoption of intercropping in sugarcane. Other four variables, i.e., family size, family labour, credit received and extension contact had no significant relationships with their adoption of intcrcropping in sugarcane.
