Abstract
The present study aimed to evaluate the anti-obesity potential of E. floribundus leaf extract through the regulation of liver and adipose tissue gene expression in a high-fat diet–induced obese mouse model. Obesity was induced by feeding mice a high-fat diet, followed by treatment with E. floribundus leaf extract. Changes in body weight, adiposity, and metabolic gene expression were assessed to determine the extract’s therapeutic effects. The results demonstrated that treatment with E. floribundus leaf extract significantly modulated the expression of key genes involved in lipid metabolism, adipogenesis, lipolysis, and thermogenesis in both liver and adipose tissues. Notably, the extract influenced the regulation of genes associated with fat accumulation and energy homeostasis, suggesting a protective role against diet-induced obesity. These molecular changes indicate that the leaf extract may exert its anti-obesity effects by improving lipid metabolism and reducing excessive fat storage. In conclusion, this study provides evidence that Elaeocarpus floribundus leaf extract possesses promising anti-obesity potential through the modulation of metabolic gene expression. The findings support the potential use of E. floribundus as a natural therapeutic candidate for obesity management. Further studies focusing on mechanistic validation on molecular and genetic level, effect on gut microbiota, and clinical translation are recommended to confirm its efficacy and safety. The main idea of this research work to explore the idea that obesity-linked inflammation may cause several dysregulations such as adipose inflammation, gut premeabilty disruption, dysbiosis, insulin resistance, liver disease and methodologies were followed to test whether bioactive compounds in Elaeocarpus floribundus might modulate those effects.
