Abstract

This qualitative study explores the perspectives of parents residing in urban Dhaka, Bangladesh, regarding the influence of green spaces on the emotional well-being of young children (3-8 years).Ten parents of children enrolled in a selected school were interviewed using a semi-structured format. The study aims to understand how parents perceive their children's engagement with green spaces, including the frequency and nature of these interactions, and how this engagement might influence their emotional states, both positively and negatively. Furthermore, the research seeks to identify challenges parents face in providing access to green spaces and to gather their suggestions for how the school or community could enhance opportunities for young children to interact with nature for improved mental health. Findings from this study are expected to provide valuable context-specific insights for developing school-based initiatives and parental awareness programs focused on leveraging natural environments within the urban school community to support young children’s emotional development in Bangladesh.
