Abstract Due to their low cost, low profile and ease of manufacturing in the circuit boards, microstrip antennas have become a part and parcel of today's wireless communication world. But poor performance, such as low capacity handling, narrow bandwidth, low gain, etc. In some cases, limit their application. Since high frequency bands will be used in the upcoming wireless communication of the 5th generation (5 G), it will be severely affected by path loss. High gain antenna is required to manage this problem. So the main concern of this research work is to design a high gain 2×2 microstrip patch antenna array. The simulation is performed by using the simulation software Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Microwave Studio which is a commercially available electromagnetic simulator based on finite difference time domain technique. The gain, bandwidth, return loss, VSWR and efficiency of the designed 2×2 array antenna is 23.8 dBi, 600MHz, 74.3dB, 1 and almost 99% respectively.
