Abstract
The article "Providing Essentials at Reasonable Prices" by M. Azizur Rahman examines strategies to stabilize commodity prices and ensure affordability of basic goods for Bangladesh's population. The author analyzes the challenges of market volatility, supply chain inefficiencies, and inflationary pressures that disproportionately affect low-income households. The study evaluates policy interventions such as strategic food reserves, subsidies for staple items, and anti-hoarding measures while emphasizing the need for improved agricultural productivity and distribution networks. Drawing comparisons with regional models of price stabilization, the article advocates for a balanced approach combining government regulation with market mechanisms to protect consumer interests without distorting production incentives. The analysis concludes that maintaining price stability for essentials is crucial for social stability and equitable economic growth in Bangladesh.
