A study on antibiotic residue was performed for four months to evaluate the health hazard. For this, a total of 120 poultry samples (60 Broiler and 60 Deshi chicken) comprising liver, kidney and breast muscles were collected from different wet markets of Chittagong Metropolitan Area. Those samples were tested for Oxytetracycline, Amoxicillin, Sulfanilamide and Ciprofloxacin using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) followed by Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC) of some positive samples. In TLC, 48.3% and 23.3% samples were positive in Broiler and Deshi chicken respectively. Among them, 70% detected in liver, 45% in kidney and 30% in breast muscle for broiler and 35% in liver, 20% in kidney and 15% in breast muscle for deshi chicken. Ciprofloxacin is the predominant antibiotics over tetracycline in both broiler and deshi chicken. Significant (P< 0.05) difference was found within tetracycline, amoxicillin, sulfanilamide and ciprofloxacin residues of deshi chicken and amoxicillin and sulfanilamide residues of broiler. In UPLC, Amoxicillin residues were (16.9 – 149.9) µg/gm in liver and (45.3 – 60.5) µg/gm in kidney. The study recommends the implementation of withdrawl period, effective surveillance and cautious use of drugs in animals for public health safety.
