Abstract

ABSTRACT The continuous growth of the aquaculture sector has motivated numerous empirical studies investigating the use of pond fish farming practices. The main purpose of this research study was to identify use of pond fish farming practices by the farmers. The study was conducted in 4 villages of Panchbag union of Mymensingh district. The populations of pond farmers in these villages were 301, from which 101 samples were drawn by using sample size formula. An interview schedule was used for data collection during the period from February to March, 2021. Simple and direct questions with different appropriate scales were used to obtain information. Descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, percentile and Pearson‟s Product Moment coefficient of correlation (r) was used for data analysis. The Majority (62.38%) of the farmers had medium practices for pond fish farming, whereas 23.76 percent farmers had high practices and 13.86 percent had low practices for fish farming. Out of ten selected characteristics, level of education, experience in fish farming, land possession, pond size, annual income from pond fish farming, commercialization of fish farming, training exposure and extension contact for fish farming had significant positive relationship with their use of pond fish farming practices. On the other hand, age and family size had no significant relationship with their use of pond fish farming practices. More research may be conducted by selecting other characteristics of the pond farmers to observe the relationships with their use of pond fish farming practices.
