Item BIOLOGY OF Colletotrichum capsici AND MANAGEMENT OF ANTHRACNOSE OF CHILLI(Department of Plant Pathology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, 2017-12) RAHMAN, MD. MOKHLESURFour isolates of Colletotrichum capsici infecting chilli in four major growing areas of Bangladesh were collected and purified to characterize in terms of cultural, morphological, physiological and pathogenicity. Another field experiment was conducted to search out a suitable management option against anthracnose disease of chilli. Five treatments viz. planting in raised bed, space planting (50x50cm), Micro tech-1 @ 10ml/L water, Metaril 72 WP @ 2g/L water and Control were applied. The isolates varied significantly in their cultural, morphological and pathogenic traits- viz. colony color, shape, margin, texture and production of conidia. The optimum temperature and pH for the radial mycelial growth of Colletotrichum capsici were recorded at 25-30°C and pH 6.0-6.5, respectively. No growth was observed at 10°C and 35°C temperature. Excellent (++++) sporulation was recorded at temperature 25 and 30°C and pH 6.0 and 6.5 for all the isolates. The pathogen Colletotrichum capsici grew well on PDA medium. The highest (87.00 mm) radial mycelial growth was obtained on PDA. Good (+++) sporulation was recorded at CDA media for all the isolates. No growth and sporulation was found in V-8 A and WA media. The length of conidia varied from 9.9-51.8μm. Mean length of conidia was maximum 28.40 μm in isolate BoCC-1 and minimum 2.88 μm in isolate PaCC-1. The breadth of conidia ranged from 0.33-12.40 μm. The highest mean breadth 4.56 μm was observed in isolate BoCC-1 and the lowest 2.88 μm in isolate PaCC-1. The highest disease score was found in Isolate BoCC-1 and RaCC-1 in case of red (7.00) and green (5.00) chillies, respectively. On the other hand, the lowest disease score was found in Isolate GaCC-1 and PaCC-1 in case of red (5.00) and green (3.00) chillies, respectively. The lowest plant infection (25.45%) and highest yield (456.3 g plant -1 ) was obtained from planting in raised bed followed by application of Metaril 72 WP @ 2g/L water.Item MANAGEMENT OF ANTHRACNOSE OF CHILLI THROUGH SELECTED FUNGICIDES AND PLANT EXTRACTS(Department of Plant Pathology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, 2007-12) ISLAM, MUHAMMAD MAZHARULThe effect of twelve treatments viz. Bavistin 50 WP (T1), Cupravit 50 WP (T2). Dithane M-45 (T3), Proud 250 EC (T4), Ridomil Gold (T5). Tilt 250 EC (T(l). Allamanda leaf extract (T7). Neem leaf extract (T8). Garlic extract (T9), Ginger extract (TIO)~ Onion extract (T11) and Control (T12) were tested against Colletotrichum capsici causing Anthracnose of chilli during winter season (2006-2007) at the Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. The highest seed germination (80%) was obtained from ginger extract and neem extract treated seeds in laboratory condition while the germination was 78.83o/o and 74.00%, respectively ginger and necm extract in the field condition. The efficacy of the treatments varied significantly in terms of disease incidence, disease severity and yield of chilli. Tilt 250 EC (T6), Proud 250 EC {T4), Cupravit 50 WP (T2) and Allamanda extract (T9) showed promising effect against the disease. Application of Tilt 250 EC increased 195.90% fruit yield of chilli followed by Proud 250 EC ( 177.59%) and Bavistin 50 WP (159.56%) against anthracnose disease of chilli. Cost benefit analysis showed that the application of Tilt 250 EC (T6) resulted the highest BCR (4.07) followed by Proud 250 EC (3.68). Bavistin 50 WP (3.47), Allamanda leaf extract (3.16) and Dithane M- 45 (2.95 ) compared to control.Item POST-HARVEST MANAGEMENT OF ANTHRACNOSE OF BANANA (Musa spp.)(Department of Plant Pathology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, 2017-12) ALI, MD. YASINAn investigation was carried out on post-harvest diseases of banana and evaluates the efficacy of some selected chemicals, botanicals and hot water treatment against the pathogen. The experiment was conducted in in vitro condition. In this study, the antifungal activity of six fungicides and hot water treatment were tested under in-vitro condition against C. gloeosporioides. The results of present study showed that three fungicides (Tilt 250 EC, Autostin 50 WDG, Rovral 50 WP) at 500 and 1000 ppm concentrations significantly checked the fungal growth. The lowest mycelial growth (1.10 cm) was found in case of Tilt 250 EC at 1000 ppm concentration at six day after inoculation. The lowest severity (2.50%) of banana was recorded in case of the same fungicide at same concentration (1000 ppm) and the reduction of infection was (97.08%) over control. On the other hand, hot water treatment of banana had significant effect in controlling anthracnose of banana over control. The severity of the disease gradually decreased with the increase of water temperature and came to the minimum infection (4.25%) at 55 o C temperature treated for 5 minutes. Application of Tilt 250 EC (1000 ppm) and 55 0 C temperature for 5 minutes proved effective in management of anthracnose diseases of banana.
