Automated medicine billing with image recognition
(Daffodil International University, 2024-07-24) Ullah, Mohammad; Nahid, Sayed
This research aims to revolutionize the manual billing processes in pharmacies through an innovative system leveraging image recognition technology. By using a strategically placed camera, the system captures images of prescribed medications and employs advanced Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to accurately identify key details such as drug names, dosages, and quantities. This extracted information is seamlessly integrated into the pharmacy's existing billing software, thereby automating the billing process and calculating costs with precision. The automation eliminates the need for manual data entry, significantly reducing errors and enhancing operational efficiency. Moreover, the system securely stores both the medication images and the corresponding billing records in a database, ensuring data integrity and providing easy access for future reference. This approach not only speeds up the billing process but also ensures secure and accurate bill printing, contributing to a faster, more precise, and userfriendly pharmacy experience for patients and staff alike. The project ultimately aims to transform pharmacy operations, enabling staff to focus more on customer care rather than administrative tasks and enhancing the overall quality of healthcare delivery. By addressing the limitations of traditional manual billing methods, this system represents a significant step forward in creating a streamlined and efficient healthcare environment.

CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing to treat sickle cell disease
(BRAC University, 2022-11) Ullah, Mohammad; Islam, Farzana
The most prevalent inherited blood condition, Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) causes excruciating pain, permanent organ damage including liver, heart, and kidney also causes an untimely death. There is currently a dearth of treatment options for SCD. In order to lessen the severity of acute problems, only four medications have been licensed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, is the curative treatment for SCD, that is related to matched donor. Recent and significant advancements in genome editing techniques have shown promise as a curative option, with the potential to fix the mutation in patient-derived Hematopoietic Stem/Progenitor Cells (HSPCs), to increase Fetal Hemoglobin (HbF) expression to avoid sickling of Red Blood Cells (RBCs), and generate corrected induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs). CRISPR/Cas9, which was discovered relatively recently, has not only changed the face of genome engineering, but also made it possible to use these ideas in the clinic. In this review, we provide an overview of CRISPR/Cas9 applications in genome engineering and discuss the advantages, disadvantages, how it is superior to other gene editing technologies such as Zinc Finger Nucleases (ZFNs) and Transcription Activator-Like Effector Nucleases (TALENs) and potential of this technology as a treatment for SCD.
