    FFECT OF FERTILIZERS ON INCIDENCE OF APHID AND BENEFICIAL ARTHROPODS IN MUSTARD
    (DEPARTMENT OF ENTOMOLOGY, 2021) UDDIN, MD. SALAH
    An experiment was conducted in the central field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from November, 2019 to February, 2020 to evaluate the effect of fertilizers on incidence of aphid in mustard. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design replicated with three times. For this study, treatments were- T1: Urea recommended dose + MoP recommended dose + Boron recommended dose; T2: Urea ¾ of recommended dose + MoP recommended dose + Boron recommended dose; T3: Urea recommended dose + MoP ¾ of recommended dose + Boron recommended dose, T4: Urea recommended dose + MoP recommended dose + Boron ¾ of recommended dose, T5: Urea ¾ of recommended dose + MoP ¾ of recommended dose + Boron recommended dose, T6: Urea recommended dose + MoP ¾ of recommended dose + Boron ¾ of recommended dose, T7: Urea ¾ of recommended dose + MoP recommended dose + Boron ¾ of recommended dose and T8: Urea ¾ of recommended dose + MoP ¾ of recommended dose + Boron ¾ of recommended dose. The incidence of aphid at early, mid and late flowering stage and fruiting stage, the number of infested plant and percent plant infestation become low (0.63, 0.83, 0.97, 1.33 aphid, 1.11 plant and 3.68%, respectively) at the treatment T7 and number of aphid at inflorescence at early, mid and late flowering stage, number of infested inflorescence, percent inflorescence infestation, number of infested siliqua, percent siliqua infestation and average number of deformed siliqua (0.39 aphid, 0.46 aphid, 0.49 aphid, 0.81 inflorescence, 13.04%, 17.84 siliqua, 12.07% and 3.38 siliqua, respectively) was low at T7 treatment. The number of healthy plant, number of lady bird beetle, number of field spider, number of ant, number of dragon fly, plant height, number of branches, number of siliqua, length of siliqua, seeds per siliqua, 1000 seeds weight and yield of mustard were high (30.13 plant, 2.13 lady bird beetle, 1.56 field spider, 1.12 ant, 0.98 dragon fly, 118.78 cm, 12.57 branches, 130.47 siliqua, 3.89 cm, 28.47 seeds, 3.82g and 2.78 t/ha, respectively) at T7 treatment.

    PERFORMANCE OF FIVE SELECTED HYBRID RICE VARIETIES IN BORO SEASON

    The experiment was carried out at the research farm of the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhalca- 1207, during December 2011 to May 2012 to evaluate the performance of five hybrid rice varieties namely Moyna, Sonarbangla-3, IIeera4, Jagoron and Panna-!. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block design with four replications. Inbred BRRI dhan45 was used as a check variety. Growth characters yield and yield attributes were significantly different among the studied varieties. All the studied hybrid varieties exhibited superiority in respect of growth characters viz, tillers hill", leaves hilt'. TDM hilr1, leaf area hill", LA!, CUR, RGR and NAR over the inbred BRRI dhan45. Additionally, these hybrids also showed better performance in yield related characters viz, effective tillers hill", paniele length, 1000-grain weight, biological yield, harvest index (HI) over the same inbred. Consequently, the tested hybrid varieties produced the higher grain yield compared to BRRI dhan45. Higher grain yield of the tested hybrids also related with higher dry matter production and partitioning. However, Heera4 showed the best performance closely followed by Moyna. The hybrid varieties Heera-4 and Moyna had maximum CUR. RGR and NAR particularly in the reproductive stage (90 DAT) possibly for high sink demand and thus, these two varieties produced 43.5% higher yield over the inbred BRRI dhan45. Yield components, effective tillers hill" and 1000 grain weight mainly contributed to the higher grain yield of hybrid varieties over the inbred BRRI dhan-45. These results suggested that the tested hybrid rice varieties had yield advantage over the inbred BRRI dhan45 due to production and partitioning of more dry matter to the grain.

    VARIABILITY STUDY IN F2 PROGENIES OF Brassica rapa
    (DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS AND PLANT BREEDING, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA, BANGLADESH, 2008-12) UDDIN, MD. SALAH
    The experiment was conducted with seven parental genotypes and their twenty one F2 progenies of IJrassica rapa at the experimental farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. Dhaka- 1207, during November. 2007 to March. 2008 to study the variability, correlation among different characters and direct and indirect efftct of diflèrent characters on seed yield per plant. The phenotypic variances were higher than the genotpie variances. Least genotypic and phenotypic variance was observed among all the parental genotypes and their F2 progenies for all the characters studied except for siliquae per plant. The high GCV value was observed for secondary branches per plant. The number of secondary branches per plant was also showed high heritability with high genetic advance in percent of mean. Based on the variability and as per our objectives nineteen most promising yellow seeded and thirty six most promising brown seeded plant with short duration were selected from the F2 progenies. Seed yield per plant had significant positive association with number of primary branches per plant, number of secondary branches per plant. number of siliqune per plant. Path co-efficient analysis revealed that days to 50% flowering, number of primary branches per plant, number of secondary branches per plant, number o! siliquae per plant, siliqua length, seeds per siliqua and thousand seed weight had the positive direct efiëct on seed yield per plant. And days to maturity and plant height had the negative direct effect on yield per plant.
