Item EFFECT OF SOME BOTANICALS AND BIO-CONTROL AGENTSIN CONTROLLINGBRINJAL SHOOT AND FRUIT BORER (LEUCINODES ORBONALIS GUEN) IN BRINJAL(Department of Entomology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207, 2010-06) UDDIN, MD. NASIRThe experiment was conducted at the Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, Bangladesh to study the effect of some botanicals and bio-control agents in controlling Brinjal Shoot and Fruit Borer (BSFB) during the period from April to October 2009. The experiment consists of the following management practices: T1: Neem oil @ 4ml/L of water at 7 days interval; T2: Neem seed kernel @ 300g/L of water at 7 days interval; T3: Trichogramma evanescense @ 0.1g/6 m2 at 7 days interval; T4: Bacillus thuringiensis serovar kurstaki @ 1.5ml/L of water at 7 days interval; T5: Bacillus thuringiensis serovar kurstaki @ 1ml suspension/L of water + Safeclean 2.5 ml/L of water at 7 days interval; T6: Botanical pesticides Safeclean 5 ml/L of water at 7 days interval and T7: Untreated control. The plants treated with T1 treatment (Neem oil @ 4 ml/L of water at 7 days interval), resulted significantly lowest percentage of infested shoot &fruit compared to those of other treatments during early, mid and late fruiting stage. Significantly the highest yield was obtained in plant under the treatment T1. The treatments T2(Neem seed kernel @ 300g/L of water at 7 days interval) and T3(Trichogramma evanescence @ 0.1g/6 m2 after 7 days interval) also gave more or less similar result as treatment T1. The yield contributing characters found highest in T1 treatment for length and girth of fruits, weight of individual fruit, edible portion, non edible portion and yield per hectare. The highest Benefit Cost Ratio was found in T1 may be due to the minimum infestation and cost compared to the other treatment components and the highest yield was produced in this treatment. Length, girth of healthy fruits, individual fruit weight and edible portion of fruit showed significant positive relation with yield of brinjal.Item MANAGEMENT OF CERCOSPORA LEAF SPOT OF MUNGBEAN (Vigna radiata) THROUGH BOTANICALS(Department of Plant Pathology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, 2007-12) UDDIN, MD. NASIRThe present experiment was conducted for management of Cercospora leaf spot of mungbean through botanicals. The experiment comprised of 7 treatments such as T 1 = Neem leaves extract (1:4 w/v); T = Garlic cloves extract (1:5 w/v); T 3 = Biskatali leaves extract (1:4 w/v); T 2 = Alamanda leaves extract (1:6 w/v); T 5 = Arjun leaves extract (1:4 w/v); T = Debdaru leaves extract (1:5 w/v) and T 7 4 = Untreated (control). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design. Data on disease incidence, severity, yield contributing characters and yield of mungbean were recorded. The highest (13.42% infected plant) disease incidence was recorded in treatment T and the lowest (3.67% infected plant) disease incidence was recorded in treatment T 7 at 60 DAS and the highest (13.65) disease severity was recorded in treatment T 1 and the lowest (4.55) disease severity was recorded in treatment T 2 and T 7 . The highest (13.45) number of inflorescence per plant was recorded in treatment T 3 . The tallest (51.44 cm) plant was recorded in treatment T 1 1 . The maximum number of bunches (8.56), number of pod per plant (26.81), length of pod (8.56 cm), number of seed per pod (12.64) and 1000 seed weight (27.33 g) was recorded in treatment T . The highest yield ( J .51 kg/plot, 1.26 t/ha) also recorded in treatment T1.Item PERFORMANCE OF INDIAN SPINACH AND PINEAPPLE — AT DIFFERENT ORIENTATIONS OF LITCHI TREE(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR., 2008-06) UDDIN, MD. NASIR; Md. Main Uddin MiahA field experiment was conducted at the Agroforestry Farm, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University during February 2007 to January 2008 to examine the growth performance of Pineapple and Indian spinach grown at different orientations around litchi tree. There were five treatments viz. 4 different orientations (north, south, east and west) of litchi tree for production of Indian spinach in association with pineapple and one control plot. The treatments were as follows T; — North orientation (average 37.12 % shade), T2 - South orientation (average 22.03 % shade), T3 — East orientation (average shade 48.61 %), T,— West orientation (average 40.16 % shade) and T;— open field (No shade). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCDB) with three replications. The aim of the study was to detect the orientational effect (Various shade % created by tree canopy) of litchi tree in multistoried agroforestry system. The longest plant of Indian spinach as well as pineapple were recorded in east orientation. The values of all other parameters were found highest in open field (full sun light). Significantly the highest yield (7.12 ton ha’') of Indian spinach was recorded in open field followed by south orientation (6.60 ton ha’') while the lowest yield (5.80 ton ha”) was found in the east orientation. On the other hand pineapple exhibited the highest value for all its growth parameters under litchi tree with the increase of shade level, (East>West>North>South>Open field). Moreover, the results indicate that, the litchi orchard of northern part of Bangladesh have the potentiality to produce pineapple as well as Indian spinach as multistoried production concept, although the yield performance of pineapple was not achieved in this study as it needs another year for its perennial life cycle.
