Item Bangla sign language recognition using leap motion sensor(BRAC University, 2019-08) Tan, Tamkin Mahmud; Mondol, Anna Mary; Nawal, Noshin; Ahmed, Sabbir; Uddin, JiaSign language is used by hearing and speech impaired people to transmit their messages to other people but it is difficult for a regular people to understand this gesture based language. Instantaneous responses on sign language can significantly enhance the understanding of sign language. In this paper, we propose a system that detects Bangla Sign Language using a digital motion sensor called Leap Motion Controller. It is a sensor or device which can detect 3D motion of hands, fingers and finger like objects without any contact. A Sign Language Recognition system has to be designed to recognize a hand gesture. In sign language system, gestures are defined as some specific patterns or movement of the hands to give an expression. There has to be a library which includes all the datasets to match with the user given gestures. We have to compare the sequences of data we get from Leap Motion and our datasets to get an optimal result which is basically the output. It will then show the output as text in the display. For our system, we choose to use $P Point-Cloud Recognizer algorithm to match the input data with our datasets. This recognition algorithm was designed for rapid prototyping of gesture-based UI and can deliver an average over 99% accuracy in user-dependent testing. Our proposed model is designed in a way so that the hearing and speech impaired people can communicate easily and efficiently with common people.Item Building scalable and secure software solutions to empower modern digital transformation(BRAC University, 2025-10) Biswas, Ranan; Tan, Tamkin MahmudWith the current advent of digital, practically all businesses quickly go through their digital transformations adopting software-driven business environments that require to be scalable and secure. The internship project at RubyTech was centered around the development of a scalable and highly efficient software system to be able to handle project management processes at enterprise level, that would include task management, authentication security and performance enhancements. The system was built with the ability to transmit all the data in real-time with an increased level of reliability using such tools as React, TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and security protocol such as OAuth 2.0 and JWT. The methodology involved the use of waterfall in the project which entailed the design of use case, ER diagrams, Class diagrams and activity diagrams. Real examples of implementation were also shown, including code snippets and UI elements, and combine the theoretical concepts of the show into working solutions. This report also offers summaries the process of development, issues encountered and the experience gained as an insight into designing secure and scalable system architecture as it is developed by a developer.Item Internship as a young professional under the application team of KSRM Steel Plant Ltd.(BRAC University, 2025-06) Rashid, Aaraf Bin; Tan, Tamkin MahmudThis report provides an overview of my 35-week internship at KSRM Steel Plant Ltd.’s IT department, where I mostly worked on security enhancement, website optimization, and data analysis. As the lead WordPress developer, I revamped over 12 different website designs and used efficient caching, image optimization, and database tuning to cut load times by an average of 58%. I also fixed roughly 32 security measures by putting SSL protocols into place and remembering to conduct frequent security assessments. Using certain pivot tables and advanced algorithms, I created automated Excel dashboards to examine site traffic and user interaction data at the same time.This helped them make more educated, data-driven judgments. In addition to my capabilities in web development and business analytics, this internship greatly improved my technical thinking, Agile project management, and mostly communication abilities. Despite my numerous difficulties, I ran into plugin incompatibilities and performance problems, which were mostly fixed by careful testing and the application of specially designed remedies. By bridging the gap between academic theory and industry experience, the practical training piqued my interest in the connection between technology and business processes. My role primarily involved supporting day-to-day activities such as preparing technical documents, troubleshooting issues, and learning about security processes like vulnerability assessments and penetration testing. While much of my work was observationbased, I faced several challenges that tested my adaptability and problemsolving skills. Some of these challenges included working with tools and processes that were completely new to me, understanding technical workflows without much prior guidance, and learning how to coordinate effectively with team members. At times, I struggled to find the right approach to certain problems due to limited practical knowledge, which required me to do extra research and think critically. Managing deadlines while balancing learning curves was another challenge that made me grow professionally. These experiences taught me perseverance and the importance of continuous learning. Through these challenges, I realized that hands-on problem-solving is one of the most important skills a student can develop. I believe that if students are taught more practical techniques in class to deal with real-life problems, adapting to workplace challenges would be much easier and more efficient. In general, the internship was a beneficial experience, as it allowed me to close the gap between theory and practice, as well as to enhance my technical performance, collaboration, communication, and flexibility.
