    Determinants of service quality and impact of service quality and consumer characteristics on channel selection

    Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to seek the determinants of service quality and evaluate the impact of service quality and consumers’ characteristics on channel selection in the context of beverage industry in Bangladesh. Design/methodology/approach - Data were collected using convenience sampling method. Initially exploratory factor analysis was performed to extract the key dimensions of service quality and then confirmatory factor analysis structural equation modeling was employed to verify the causal relationships between the dimensions of service quality and service quality itself. χ2 test was used to determine whether any association exists between service quality or demographic variables and choice of channel types. Cramer’s V was performed to measure the strength of association. One-way ANOVA was carried out to identify significant impact of demographic variables on perception of service quality. Findings - The research findings indicated that personal interaction, appearance, reliability, policy, and problem solving are the key determinants of service quality in terms of beverage industry in Bangladesh. It is observed that customers preferring factors like personal interaction and problem solving intend to purchase beverage items from super shop. Customers who are deemed socioeconomically high taking profession and monthly income into account prefer shopping at super shop. Customers who are female or married with no kid or service holders showed better satisfaction with service quality. Research limitations/implications - Due to money and time constraints the study could not cover up the whole country. Conclusions and predictions to be applied to consumers in general may not be appropriate entirely since specific age group was deemed, given that the subject was beverage products. Practical implications - The model proposed in this study will help managers and suppliers understand how consumers assess the quality of services. In order to strengthen brand and create brand loyalty, marketing planners, managers, and suppliers must be aware of the dimensions of service quality, and consumers’ characteristics. Selecting an optimal sales channel is imperative for suppliers in order to make their products reach to target consumers. Originality/value - Service quality plays crucial role in ameliorating customer satisfaction and creating competitive advantage whereas sales channels have impact on sustaining the long-term profitability of the company. This paper has contributed significantly to these issues and sought consumers’ characteristics and preference as well.

    DETERMINATION OF THE POTENTIALITY OF DIFFERENT SESAME (Sesamum indicum L.)GENOTYPES

    A field experiment was carried out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications at the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka during the Kharif season of 2022 to examine the genetic variability, correlation, and path analysis based on 12 characters of 43 sesame genotypes. Analysis of variance exhibited significant differences among the genotypes for most of the characters except the number of capsules per plant. The phenotypic variance and phenotype coefficient of variation were relatively higher than the respective genotypic variance and genotypic coefficient of variation for all the characters. High broad sense heritability together with high genetic advance in percent of mean was observed for number of secondary branches per plant (90.1%), 1000-seed weight (99.3%), and seed yield per plant (97.9%) while moderate heritability for days to 50% flowering (59.8%). The correlation coefficient analysis revealed that seed yield per plant had a significant positive correlation with plant height, days to 50% flowering, days to 80% maturity, number of primary branches per plant, number of capsules per plant, number of seeds per capsule, height of the first capsule, and 1000-seed weight. It appears from path coefficient analysis that plant height (0.856), days to 80% maturity (0.227), number of primary branches per plant (0.467), number of secondary branches per plant (0.441), capsule length (0.258), and number of seeds per capsule (0.213) had a positive direct effect on the yield per plant whereas, internode length (-0.799) followed by number of capsules per plant (-0.370), and days to 50% flowering (-0.198) had a negative direct effect. Based on mean performance, heritability, and interrelationship, the genotypes G6, G12, and G36 for seed yield per plant, and the genotypes G26, G27, and G37 for early maturity could be selected for further varietal improvement of sesame.

    Modeling of modified ion-acoustic shock waves in a relativistic electron degenerate multi-ion plasma for higher order nonlinearity

    A nonlinear propagation of modified ion-acoustic (mIA) shock waves in a relativistic degenerate plasma (containing inertial viscous positive and negative ion fluids, relativistic electron fluids, and negatively charged immobile heavy ions) has been investigated theoretically. The modified Burgers (mB) and further modified Burgers (FmB) equations have been derived by adopting reductive perturbation technique. The solutions of both mB and FmB equations have been numerically analyzed to characterize the basic features of mIA shock waves. The basic properties (speed, amplitude, width, etc.) of these electrostatic shock waves are found to be significantly modified by the effects of negatively charged static heavy ions and the plasma particle number densities. It is found that the properties of these shock waves obtained from this analysis are significantly different from those obtained from the analysis of standard Burgers equation. The implications of our results in space and interstellar compact objects like non-rotating white dwarfs, neutron stars, etc. are briefly discussed.     Nonplanar ion-acoustic shock waves in degenerate plasmas with positively charged heavy ions

    The theoretical and numerical study on the nonlinear propagation of heavy-ion-acoustic (HIA) shock waves has been carried out in an unmagnetized, collisionless dense plasma system (containing degenerate electron and inertial light ion fluids, and positively charged static heavy ions). The normal mode analyse is used to investigate the linear wave properties. Reductive perturbation technique is used to derive the Burgers equation which admits a localized wave solution for the shock profile. It is seen that the shock wave characteristics have been influenced significantly for the non-relativistic as well as for the ultra-relativistic limits. It has also been found that the effect of degenerate pressure and number density of electron and inertial light ion fluids, and positively charged static heavy ions significantly modify the basic features (speed, amplitude, width, etc.) of HIA shock waves. The relevance of our results in astrophysical objects (like white dwarfs and neutron stars), which are of scientific interest, is briefly discussed.     Performance Evaluation of Meander Line Implantable Antenna integrated with EBG Based Ground for Anatomical Realistic Model

    A unique design and meander line implantable antenna is examined in this paper which satisfies the requirements of ultra-wide band. The designed antenna is integrated with the electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structure based ground plane to enhance the performance. Rectangular electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures are represented here to evaluate the antenna performance. This compact and efficient MLA antenna is applied to improve the antenna performance for numerous implantable scenarios and biomedical applications. The proposed antenna with EGB ground plane is designed for both the simplified model and anatomical realistic models for the human body and executed the performance in bio-environment. To approve the results of implantable antennas more correctly, simulation is analyzed using anatomical realistic human models. The ultimate design has the whole dimension is 15.2 x 8.8 m2. The thickness of the antenna is about 0.8 mm. FR4 is chosen as the substrate material and Copper is chosen as the patch material. The antenna is enclosed biocompatible material with silicon inside the tissue in order to protect patient safety. Significant parameters such as S11 parameter, Far field (radiation pattern), VSWR, Efficiency, Directivity, Gain of the proposed antenna have calculated and measured the performance both the simplified and realistic human models. Comparison Analysis of S11 parameter for different substrate materials and patch materials have observed. The radiation mechanism and modified design of the implantable antenna reducing Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) for safety issues. All the simulation results and measurements are obtained from CST Microwave Studio to validate the design.

    Positron-Acoustic Shock Waves in a Degenerate Multi-Component Plasma

    A theoretical investigation on the propagation of positron-acoustic shock waves (PASWs) in an unmagnetized, collisionless, dense plasma (containing non-relativistic inertial cold positrons, non-relativistic or ultra-relativistic degenerate electron and hot positron fluids and nondegenerate positively charged immobile ions) is carried out by employing the reductive perturbation method. The Burgers equation and its stationary shock wave solution are derived and numerically analyzed. It is observed that the relativistic effect (i.e., the presence of non/ultra-relativistic electrons and positrons) and the plasma particle number densities play vital roles in the propagation of PASWs. The implications of our results in space and interstellar compact objects including non-rotating white dwarfs, neutron stars, etc. are briefly discussed.     Prevalence of Water-borne Disease in Farmgate Slum of Dhaka City

    The prime objective of the present study was to evaluate the habit of drinking water and its relation to the development of diseases in the population of Farmgate slum of Dhaka city. The study has been carried out to assess the present conditions of the water supply, water-borne disease, treatment pattern, sanitation, and their overall knowledge about sanitation. The methodology of this survey consists of practical field observation and field based data collection of water supply, water-borne disease type, treatment pattern and sanitation situation through Participatory Rural Appraisal tools and questionnaire survey. During the survey, data has been collected by using a well-structured questionnaire from each households of slum. In this study 100 personnel participated where 56% population was 18-40 years age range. Their education status was below secondary level (21%) and higher level was very low (6%).The results depict that the majority of the population suffered from water related diseases such as typhoid (23%), dysentery (24%), diarrhea (91%), cholera (16%), constipation (16%), jaundice (31%), amibiasis (15%) etc. For treatment of these diseases most of them went to retail pharmacist (52%) and others went quack doctor, registered doctor, homeopathic and ayurvedic treatment. They were suffering most in rainy season (53.5%). Lack of proper knowledge about hygiene, polluted water supply, unhygienic sanitation, extreme level of poverty, dispensing medicine without the prescription are the main causes for waterborne diseases in this slum. Besides Governments, every conscious people should come forward to help them.

    Roles of positively charged heavy ions and degenerate plasma pressure on cylindrical and spherical ion acoustic solitary waves

    The properties of heavy-ion-acoustic (HIA) solitary structures associated with the nonlinear propagation of cylindrical and spherical electrostatic perturbations in an unmagnetized, collisionless dense plasma system has been investigated theoretically. Our considered model contains degenerate electron and inertial light ion fluids, and positively charged static heavy ions, which is valid for both of the non-relativistic and ultra-relativistic limits. The Korteweg-de Vries (K-dV) and modified K-dV (mK-dV) equations have been derived by employing the reductive perturbation method, and numerically examined in order. It has been found that the effect of degenerate pressure and number density of electron and inertial light ion fluids, and positively charged static heavy ions significantly modify the basic features of HIA solitary waves. It is also noted that the inertial light ion fluid is the source of dispersion for HIA waves and is responsible for the formation of solitary waves. The basic features and the underlying physics of HIA solitary waves, which are relevant to some astrophysical compact objects, are briefly discussed.
