Item Exploring the Therapeutic Effect of Neurotrophins and Neuropeptides in Neurodegenerative Diseases: at a Glance(Springer Nature, 2023-04-13) Rahman, Md. Mominur; Islam, Md. Sarowar; Sharma, RohitNeurotrophins and neuropeptides are the essential regulators of peripheral nociceptive nerves that help to induce, sensitize, and maintain pain. Neuropeptide has a neuroprotective impact as it increases trophic support, regulates calcium homeostasis, and reduces excitotoxicity and neuroinflammation. In contrast, neurotrophins target neurons afflicted by ischemia, epilepsy, depression, and eating disorders, among other neuropsychiatric conditions. Neurotrophins are reported to inhibit neuronal death. Strategies maintained for “brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) therapies” are to upregulate BDNF levels using the delivery of protein and genes or compounds that target BDNF production and boosting BDNF signals by expanding with BDNF mimetics. This review discusses the mechanisms of neurotrophins and neuropeptides against acute neural damage as well as highlighting neuropeptides as a potential therapeutic agent against Parkinson’s disease (PD), Huntington’s disease (HD), Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and Machado–Joseph disease (MJD), the signaling pathways affected by neurotrophins and their receptors in both standard and diseased CNS systems, and future perspectives that can lead to the potent application of neurotrophins and neuropeptides in neurodegenerative diseases (NDs).Item Insights Into the Promising Prospect of Medicinal Chemistry Studies Against Neurodegenerative Disorders(Elsevier, 2023-03-01) Rahman, Md Mominur; Islam, Md Rezaul; Tumpa, Mst Afroza Alam; Shohag, Sheikh; Shuvo, Shakil Khan; Ferdous, Jannatul; Kajol, Saima Akter; Aljohani, Abdullah S.M.; Abdulmonem, Waleed Al; Rauf, Abdur; Thiruvengadam, MuthuMedicinal chemistry is an interdisciplinary field that incorporates organic chemistry, biochemistry, physical chemistry, pharmacology, informatics, molecular biology, structural biology, cell biology, and other disciplines. Additionally, it considers molecular factors such as the mode of action of the drugs, their chemical structure-activity relationship (SAR), and pharmacokinetic aspects like absorption, distribution, metabolism, elimination, and toxicity. Neurodegenerative disorders (NDs), which are defined by the breakdown of neurons over time, are affecting an increasing number of people. Oxidative stress, particularly the increased production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), plays a crucial role in the growth of various disorders, as indicated by the identification of protein, lipid, and Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) oxidation products in vivo. Because of their inherent nature, most biological molecules are vulnerable to ROS, even if they play a role in metabolic parameters and cell signaling. Due to their high polyunsaturated fatty acid content, low antioxidant barrier, and high oxygen uptake, neurons are particularly vulnerable to oxidation by nature. As a result, excessive ROS generation in neurons looks especially harmful, and the mechanisms associated with biomolecule oxidative destruction are several and complex. This review focuses on the formation and management of ROS, as well as their chemical characteristics (both thermodynamic and kinetic), interactions, and implications in NDs.Item Survey on Analyzing Medicine Leaflets in Bangladesh:Impact,Availability,and Public Health Expectations(Daffodil International University, 2024-05-06) Shuvo, Shakil KhanBackground: Bangladesh is one of the South Asian countries having different public health issues like child and maternal death, and outbreaks of communicable – noncommunicable diseases. The desideratum of this research is to investigate and analyze the influence of patient education pamphlets on public health in Bangladesh and to evaluate patient’s expectations, scope of development and provision of current practice of Patient Information Leaflets (PIL). Methods: The study is carried out using an online survey utilizing Google Form and through mass interviews conducted offline. A self-administered questionnaire prepared utilizing a questionnaire-based interview schedule. The entire study was built around a targeted questionnaire that was developed utilizing information from previous research on medicine information leaflets that had been done in various parts of the world as well as some general knowledge about medicine information leaflets. The questionnaire was prepared divided questions in four parts of Personal Information, Knowledge About Medicine Information Leaflet, Usability & Room for Improvement of Medicine Information Leaflet and Health Benefit. Results: Data was collected from 984 people of different ages, genders, demographic locations, education levels and occupation. Among them, 699 people know about it and 340 people read it regularly. Around 41% of people read it to learn about dose but 49% of people find it hard to understand. Although 59% of people admit PIL helps them a lot to understand the medication but 38% thought further improvement is needed. 23% of the population currently use digital media to gain information regarding medicine but 44% of the population prefer it over traditional media as 35% of the population thought digital media helps them to compare between brands. 38% of the population read PIL before buying a medicine but for 28% it influences on their buying decision. Conclusion: Patient Information leaflet makes a great impact on people's understanding of medicine and a more patient oriented leaflet can improve the overall public health scenario in Bangladesh.
