Item An Investigation of SHG Response from the CNT/Peptide Interface as a Function of Variant Peptide Concentrations and Tunable Wavelengths by Using a Monochromator(Journal of Materials Physics and Chemistry, SciEP, 2021-08-04) Haque, Md. Ehasanul; Akter, Munaly; Sattar, Md. Abdus; Hoque, Md. Asadul; Matin, Md. AbdulThe carbon nanotubes (CNT) was fabricated on the Si/SiO2/Co substrate by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. After that, we dropped variant concentrations of peptide molecules on the CNT surface and measured the SHG intensity from the CNT/PEP interface. We found that the SHG intensity was maximum for all concentrations of peptide molecules at 532 nm when we tuned the wavelength manually by using monochromator. At the fixed SHG wavelength, the intensity was increased with the increase of peptide concentrations. This is because of the availability of the different types of C-bonds may produce chiral structure. This chirality behavior could be the reason for the generation of SHG signal with the increase of peptides concentrations on the CNT surface.Item Effectiveness of Community Based Disaster Management in Bangladesh: An Exploratory Study(©University of Dhaka, 2024-02-18) Sattar, Md. AbdusBangladesh is globally known as vulnerable country to climate induced disasters and also famous as for its coping mechanisms and people’s participation in the process of managing these disasters. The geographical location, formation of earth surface, downstream river estuaries, demographic characteristics of population, socioeconomic and cultural condition of population push vulnerability to floods, droughts, river bank erosions, cyclones, tidal surges, tornadoes, earthquakes, salinity, epidemic, etc. The present study aims to explore the effectiveness of community based disaster management in Bangladesh. This study has been conducted in Merur Char, Bagar Char and Nilakshmia Union of Bakshiganj Upazila of Jamalpur district to examine the effectiveness of practiced/existing coping mechanisms of community people regarding disaster management, the government and NGOs’ initiatives to strengthen those coping mechanisms, the community people and community-based organizations (CBOs) participation in risk reduction options at community level. The methodological triangulation (quantitative and qualitative) has been used for collecting data on several issues like socioeconomic and demographic, disaster occurrence, practiced coping mechanisms within community, government and NGOs’ initiatives, CBOs’ activities for managing disasters, community people’s participation in DRR options, application and effectiveness of those coping mechanisms, CBOs’ activities and people’s participation. For quantitative data, survey has been conducted with 390 respondents while 6 FGD and 16 KII have been conducted for qualitative data. This study finds that the population has been experienced with flood, driving rain, nor ’westerly, riverbank erosion, water logging, cold wave, drought, cyclone and tornado in the study area. The community people coped with changing situation by applying coping mechanisms regarding food, fodder and fuel crisis. Besides they applied coping mechanisms degrading dwelling places, losing livelihoods, agricultural damages, water, health and sanitation issues, protecting violence against women and girls. Furthermore, the community applied the coping mechanisms regarding making the community neat and clean, mitigate disaster risks. This study also finds that the practiced coping mechanisms within the community, government and NGOs’ activities for strengthening those coping mechanisms, CBOs’ activities and community people’s participation in disaster risks reduction options were effective in managing the crisis regarding food, fodder and fuel due to disaster. The community people’s mechanisms regarding dwelling places, losing livelihoods, agricultural damages, water, health and sanitation issues, agricultural damages, mitigating disaster risks & government and NGOs’ initiatives were effective in strengthening the practiced coping mechanisms within community. The community people’s participation in risk reduction options were effective in managing disasters. Finally, this study recommends for involving all stakeholders in managing disasters, strengthening individual capacity for managing risk to reduce vulnerability, raising awareness regarding disaster management, making disaster resilient community through support from all stakeholders.Item Function, Achievement, Future Thrust of Agricultural Research of BARI(Sher-e-Bangia Agricultural University Research System (SAURES), 2003-12) Sattar, Md. AbdusItem Knowledge and Attitudes toward Education Board Directions during COVID-19: Evidence from Higher Secondary Students(East West University, 2026-04-28) Sattar, Md. AbdusDue to the impacts of COVID-19 on education worldwide, Bangladesh implemented a range of educational management measures, including online classes, television education programs, and teacher training in digital literacy. Students' perceptions in higher secondary education are important for evaluating the efficiency and resilience of education systems. To assess higher secondary students’ knowledge of education board directions and their attitudes toward their implementation, a cross-sectional survey was conducted after the COVID-19-related interventions ended. Knowledge was assessed through multiple-response items while attitudes were measured on a 5-point Likert scale. Descriptive statistics (frequencies, means, SD) were used for analysis. Additionally, subgroup analyses (χ², t-tests, ANOVA) were conducted to examine whether knowledge and attitudes differed by sex, district, area of residence, and type of college. Knowledge was highest for directives on Google Meet-based classes (82.05%), attendance monitoring (74.10%), and awareness creation (71.28%). Awareness of reporting absenteeism (37.17%) and observing non-attendance (26.41%) was relatively low. Attitudes were mixed: students acknowledged college initiatives (M = 3.35, SD = 1.12) and teacher monitoring (M = 3.15, SD = 1.07) but reported low engagement and interest (M = 2.40–2.78). The overall mean attitude was M = 2.91 (SD = 1.39). According to the statistical test, there were no significant differences between males and females, but differences were found in attitudes toward attention, engagement, and monotony. Both knowledge awareness and attitudes toward teachers’ monitoring and institutional initiatives varied significantly by district, area of residence, and type of college. Although the students were aware of the structural instructions, they reported lower satisfaction with engagement and motivation. Maintaining the continuity and quality of education, teachers’ training, consistent monitoring, and digital equity should be included in policies for managing future crises in the education sector.Item Legume Crops and Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria in Barind Tract(University of Rajshahi, 2007) Molla, Md. AbdusLegume Crops and Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria in Barind Tract Studies were undertaken to isolate, screen and characterize rhizobial bacteria from 12 different pulse legumes grown at different locations of Barind tract. Thirty-one rhizobial cultures were isolated and characterized through morphological and biochemical• investigation. Screening of the isolates of black gram, mungbean, chickpea and soybean were done through pot culture and field trial. Pot cultures were conducted in green house at Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh during October, 2002 to April 2003 and field trials were carried out at the farm of Rural Development Academy, Bogra from October 2003 to April 2005. The treatments were inoculant 11, 12 hand 13 as single culture and their mixed culture in presence and absence of different fertilizers and their mixture. Fertilizer nutrients P, S, B, Mo and their mixture were used @ 15, l0, I and 0.5 kg/ha in black gram and mungbean, 25. 20. I and I kg/ha in chickpea and 30, 20, 1.5 and I kg/ha in soybean both in pot culture and 1st field experiment. In 2nd field experiment N treatments were @ 20 and 40 kg /ha for all crops, P, K and S were used as basal dose @ 25, 20 and 20 kg/ha in black gram and mungbean and @ 30, 20 and 30 kg /ha, respectively in chickpea and soybean. It was observed from the experiment that rhizobial inoculation either alone or in presence of P, S, B, Mo and N fertilizer increased plant height, tap root length, shoot and root dry weight, nodule number and dry weight, pod/plant, seed/pod,1000 seed weight, seed and hay yield, and N and P uptake in seed and hay significantly compared to uninoculated controls. No nodules were formed on the uninoculated soybean plant both in pot and field experiments. Differences were found among the treatments. In pot culture and field experiment inoculants + mixed fertilizer performed the highest results in all the parameter studied except shoot dry weight in mungbean, shoot and nodule dry weight, number of effective nodules, pod number, 1000 seed weight and hay yield in chickpea and plant height and shoot dry weight in soybean in field experiment. The single fertilizer treatment P also showed the significant effect on some of the parameters studied and it gave the highest values on 1000 seed weight of black gram, nodule dry weight of mungbean and root dry weight or soybean in pot culture pod number per plant of chickpea and seed number per pod of soybean in field experiment. Integrated use of inoculants and nitrogen were found to be more effective and beneficial compared to their individual application for pulse cultivation in Barind tract. In field experiment mixed culture inoculant + 20 kg N/ha gave the highest value in all the parameters studied. Application of 20 kg N/ha enhanced inoculant response to the experimental crops and 40 kg N/ha was inferior to control in some cases. Study on several carrier materials (peat, press mud and clay soil) with three different Brady rhizobium and one Mesorhizobium isolates showed that peat was the best carrier for the production of rhizobial inoculants. AbdusBangIa text to speech synthesizer can generate speech sounds from arbitrary text input. BangIa text to speech synthesizer is developed using the method that stores speech sounds of parts of words. The parts of words i.e. basic sounds units are recorded using sound card, microphone and sound recorder utility software. The pronunciation rules and the determination of basic sound units of BangIa words are studied extensively as part of the current research which is the field of BangIa phoneme research. At first BangIa text to speech synthesizer accepts the character from keyboard and identifies the sound unit and plays that. This task is repeated until the word is completed. Then the text is normalized by defining the wave files from the adjacent keys as per pronunciation rule and searched. When identification of the sound units for a particular BangIa word is completed, all the sound units are merged together into a speech file to form the complete speech signal for that Bangia word and finally the merged wave file is played.
