Item EFFECT OF THINNING TIME AND VARIETY ON YIELD PERFORMANCE OF SESAME(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2017) SULTANA, TAHMINAAn experiment was conducted at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Farm, Dhaka 1207, during Kharif-1 (March – June), 2017 to study the yield performance of sesame varieties in response to thinning times and varieties. The experiment was composed of two factors like variety and thinning time. The varieties were BARI TIL 2 and a local variety designated V 1 and V respectively. There were six levels of thinning times practiced at 15 days after sowing (DAS), at 20 DAS , at 25 DAS , at 30 DAS , at 35 DAS and at 40 DAS designated at T 1 , T 2 , T 3 2 , T 4 , T 5 and T respectively. The experiment was laid out by Split Plot Design with 3 replications. Significant effects of treatments were observed on height (cm), dry matter plant -1 6 (g), number of branches plant -1 , , number of capsules of different branches, number of capsules plant -1 , 1000 - seed weight (g), seed yield (kg ha ), stover yield (kg ha -1 ), biological yield (kg ha -1 ) and harvest index (%). Significantly highest yield was obtained from V 2 (local Variety ) due to highest no. of capsules plant (47), 1000 - seed weight (2.68 g ), seed yield ( 590 kg ha -1 ) and harvest index (21%). Moreover , thinning at 25 DAS appeared with the highest seed yield (656 kg ha -1 ), capsule plant (56) and 1000 - seed weight (2.933). Results revealed that the highest number of capsules plant (64.67), 1000 seed weight (2.998 g), seed yield (761.80 kg ha -1 -1 -1 ), stover yield (2693 kg ha ) and harvest index (22.3%) were obtained by the combined effect of V 2 T (Local variety thinned at 25 DAS ). Contrary to that the lowest number of capsule plant -1 3 (25.97) and seed yield (387.10 kg ha -1 ) were obtained from the combined effect of V 1 T (BARI TIL 2 thinned at 30 DAS) treated plots.Item INVOLVEMENT OF RURAL WOMEN IN AGRIBUSINESS(DEPT. OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION & INFORMATION SYSTEM, 2008) SULTANA, TAHMINAThe aim of the study was to determine the extent of involvement of rural women in agribusiness. Attempts were also made to determine eight selected characteristics of the rural women and their relationship with involvement in agribusiness. Data were collected by interviewing 120 randomly selected women of Kazipur Upazila of Sirajganj District during 25 February, 2008 to 31st March, 2008. Appropriate scales were developed in order to measure the variables. Co efficient of correlation was used to ascertain the relationship between the concerned dependent & independent variables. Majority (68.4%) of the rural women had low involvement compared to 18.3% very low and 13.3% medium involvement in agribusiness. Among the selected characteristics of the rural women, farm size, cosmopoliteness, extension contact and innovativeness had significant and positive relationships with their involvement in agribusiness. On the other hand, age, education, annual family income and role of decision making had insignificant and positive relationships with their involvement in agribusiness. On the basis of Problem Faced Index, "Lack of freedom of right" ranked first followed by "Lack of women empowerment" and "Lack of freedom of speech" among the problems faced by the rural women in agribusiness.
