    EFFECT OF NITROGEN FERTILIZER AND SPACING ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF MAIZE (Zea inays 1.)

    An experiment was conducted at Central Far-rn of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. Dhaka during the period from April to July 2006 to study the efibet of different levels of nitrogen and spacing on growth and yield of maize. The experiment was laid out in two factors Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Factor A: Three levels of Nitrogenous (180, 220 and 260 kg N/ha) and Factor B: Different types of spacing (50 cm x 25 cm, 75 cm and 90 cm x 25 cm) were used in the experiment.Incasc of nitrogen the maximum number of cobs per plant (1.049), cobs length (16-7 cm), Stover yield (14.744t) and lIan'est Index (28-953%) was observed in N2.The maximum number of grain per cob (271-66), 1000-grain weight (446.444g) and grain yield (6.253t) was recorded from N 3 incase of spacing number of cobs (1.063), cob length (16.9 cm). 1000- grain weight (440.1 Ig), grain yield (7.354t), Stover yield (15.844t) and Harvest Index (32.142%) was found in S2. The maximum number of grain per cob (313.667) was recorded from 53 Incase of treatment combination the maximum number of cobs per plant (1.083) was found in S3N2 The maximum cob length (18.8cm). 1000-grain weight (476.7g), grain yield (8.35t), stover yield (17.$7t), harvest index (33.77%) and Benefit Cost Ratio (7.748) was found in S 2N7 The maximum number of grain per cob (331.7) was found in S3N3•

    INFLUENCE OF GIBBERALIC ACID ON GROWTH, YIELD AND QUALITY OF TOMATO CV. BIPUL PLUS

    An experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur during the period from January 2024 to June 2024 to observe the effects of gibberellic acid (GA3) on growth and quality of tomato cv bipul plus. The experiment consisted of five doses of GA3 acid such as 10, 20, 30 and 40 ppm with control. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 15 plots. Different doses of GA3 showed significant influence on almost all the parameters studied concerned with growth and quality contributing characters of tomato. The hormone GA3 (40 ppm) produced the tallest plant (72.94 cm) at 60 DAT, maximum number of leaves (96.00), maximum number of flowers (38.00), maximum number of fruits (20.00), maximum diameter of fruit (4.46 cm) and maximum fresh weight of fruit (53.33 g) in T4 treatment. Maximum number of branches per plant (12.00) at 60 DAT produced by T2 (20 ppm). On the other hand, minimum number of leaves (66.67) at 60 DAT, minimum number of branches (9.00), minimum number of flower (23.33), minimum length of leaf (37.39 cm), minimum diameter of fruit (3.89 cm), minimum fresh weight of fruit (42.01 g) were recorded from the treatment of 10 ppm GA3 (T1 treatment). The shortest plant height (72.94 cm) at 60 DAT, minimum number of fruit (14.33) produced by T2 (20 ppm) treatment. The highest amount of total sugar (6.1 mg/100g), β carotene (14.48 mg/100g), vitamin C (29.0 mg/100g), sodium content (41.16 mg/100g), potassium content (108.92 mg/100g), calcium content (40.1 mg/100g) were recorded from 40 ppm (T4 treatment). The lowest amount of total sugar (5.3 mg/100g), lowest ash content (0.48%), value of β carotene (5.26 mg/100g), value of vitamin C (16.43 mg/100g), sodium content (36.86 mg/100g), potassium content (98.3 mg/100g), calcium content (29.55 mg/100g) were recorded from 10 ppm GA3 (T1 treatment). The highest amount of moisture (95.49%) was obtained from T1 (10 ppm) treatment. On the other hand, the lowest amount of moisture (94.23 %) was recorded from T2 (20 ppm) treatment. From experiment, T2 (20 ppm) treatment was given the highest amount of ash (0.64%), protein (1.65%) and ß-carotene (14.48 mg/100g). The highest amount of reducing sugar (5.5 mg/100g) was recorded from T3 (30 ppm) treatment and the lowest amount of reducing sugar (3.85 mg/100g) was recorded from T0 (control) treatment. So, it can fairly be concluded that the application of gibberellic acid at 40 ppm is quite effective to increase growth, yield and quality of tomato.

    PATHOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION OF DISEASES IN BROILER AT DINAJPUR DISTRICT

    The prevalence of diseases in broiler encountered in commercial broiler farms at Dinajpur district of Bangladesh was pathologically investigated. The course of the study was one year from September, 2009 to August, 2010 under the Department of Pathology and Parasitology, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur. The diagnosis of different disease conditions was done based on history, clinical signs, characteristic gross morbid lesions and histopathological study. In the present investigation, a total of 264 dead birds were collected for necropsy from different broiler farms. The highest proportional incidence of the diseases in broiler in the present investigation was recorded 25.75% which was due to Infectious bursal disease (IBD). This was followed by Newcastle disease (17.72%), Colibacillosis (14.01%), Coccidiosis (8.71%), MC complex (8.71%), Salmonellosis (7.57%), Aspergillosis (4.92%), Deficiency disorders (4.92%), Aflatoxicosis (4.54%) and Miscellaneous disease conditions (3.40%). The findings indicate that Infectious bursal disease (IBD) is the major disease problem in broiler farming at Dinajpur.
