    CXIDR cellular cross-layer intrusion detection and respons

    Consumption of data through cellular devices are growing exponentially due to continuously growing popularity of smart phones and tablets. Because of their small size and reduced capabilities, it is sometimes hard to impose adequate security measures to these everyday used devices. Security measures are taken such as authentication, encryption or key management which can’t detect or solve all kinds of known and unknown attacks specially the new or unknown ones. Thus they have become a popular target for data theft and misuse. Because of the nature of the cellular network various kinds of attack on the cellular devices such as DOS are happening every day. Cellular network, being a wireless network, is prone to attacks because of the node’s shared nature, naturally broadcasted states, unclear perimeters, invisible access, limited resources and being not tolerant to physical attacks. So, security in wireless network is more complex than wired network. The conventional security measures regarding only the layered architecture cannot cope with this ever evolving security issue. So, here we are proposing a modified version of cross-layer design for security in wireless network entitled as Cellular Cross-layer Intrusion Detection and Response or CXIDR. It is an extended version of Cross-layer Intrusion Detection and Response (XIDR) framework. Here, we have tried to define the notion of cross-layer design which integrates features from various layers for detecting intrusions in wireless environment. We believe that this enhanced framework will do a great job in detecting intrusions in wireless area in near future.

    Low cost cylindrical lumen testing procedure in Bangladesh perspective

    Due to having several Solar Home System components manufacturers, overall quality of LED lamps varies from organization to organization. This unstable quality is increasing with the number of SHS installation and thus the system inefficiency. Hence, testing of LED lamps used in SHS is very important. However, existing procedure using the integrated sphere system for lumen test is quite costly in our country's perspective. Considering the situation, this research presents a low cost cylindrical procedure for lumen testing. The effectiveness of our novel system is tested in this paper. This research also includes the testing results from CARG lab, BRAC University.

    Performance analysis of robotic arm manipulators control system under multitasking environment

    To observe the performance of PC based robot manipulator under general purpose (Windows), Soft (Linux) and Hard (RT Linux) Real Time operating systems (OS). The same open loop system is observed in different operating system under multitasking environment. The Data Acquisition (DAq, PCL-812PG) card is used as a hardware interface. This experiment shows that the real time error (Jitter) is minimum in RT-Linux operating system than any other Soft Real-Time operating systems. Delay analysis of this supervisory system is calculated in RT-Linux operating system.

    Power conversion for environment friendly electrically assisted rickshaw using photovoltaic technology in Bangladesh

    Addressing the problem of high energy consumption from national grid of electrically assisted rickshaw the Control and Applications Research Centre (CARC), BRAC University has proposed a field tested green solution: provide a share of the required energy of these rickshaws using solar energy. A 360Wp PV array was installed on a rickshaw and the performance was evaluated to determine its impact on the rickshaw and the energy saved from the national grid. The paper presents the fndings from the field tests. It is seen that 50% of the required load energy can be provided by the PV array, consequently saving that energy from the national grid. It is further seen that for the same amount of energy consumed from the battery, the distance coverage of these rickshaws can nearly be doubled.

    Solar home system components qualification testing procedure and its effect in bangladesh perspective

    Bangladesh has seen a proliferation of Solar Home System (SHS) in Off-grid areas as a substitute for grid electricity. Along with the demand, supply of low quality SHS components is increasing resulting in decreased SHS efficiency and adverse effect on the country's economy. In this case standard testing methods for the SHS components can help us verify the standard of the components in markets thus increase reliability and efficiency of the whole system. This paper discusses about the standard qualification testing procedure, its necessity and effect in Bangladesh prospective. Here we present the testing procedures used to determine whether the SHS components meet IDCOL standards and our findings on the components in concern. Sample testing data from our lab is also integrated in the paper.
