Item A Survey on Exploring the Regional and Lifestyle Factors Contributing to Kidney Disease in Bangladesh(Daffodil International University, 23-04-18) Rahman, Md. MostafizurKidney disease is a predominant public health concern, with an overall frequency in Bangladeshi people of 22.48%, which is higher than the global frequency of kidney diseases patients. In Bangladesh, renal disease affects over than two crore individuals, according to a 2019 research. Two lakh persons experience renal illness each year. The study’s objective was to understand the present prospective and regional causes of kidney diseases. A questionnairebased in-person survey was conducted where 110 individual representatives from different socio demographic characteristics participated in the survey from January 9 to April 30, 2023. All the participants were from 1 years to above 70 years old. Among the participants, 55% were female and 45% were male. Most of them are from rural areas (58%). Of the respondents, most of them (56%) is suffering from different kidney diseases for more than 1 year. For this problem 52% of respondents took allopathy and 39% of respondents took homeopathy medicines. Form all the respondents 41% people have diabetes mellitus. Of them 67% have type 1 diabetes and 32% respondents have high blood pressure. One of the most shocking result is 70% of the respondents are suffering from kidney failure of different stages. Only 15% of total respondents drink water more than 2 liters in a day. Drinking water less than requirement is a major reason for development of kidney diseases and also the higher percentage of kidney failure patient suggest that the treatment pattern of most of the patient having kidney diseases is not convenient.Item An Analysis of The Impact of Material's Price Hike on The Production Cost of Summit Communications Ltd.(Daffodil International University, 23-05-18) Rahman, Md. To suggest some possible recommendations based on findings.Item Analysis of Electromagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) of Lightning Surge of a Vertical Conductor and its Invasion to a Control Building(Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), Khulna, Bangladesh., 2005-06) Rahman, Md. OsmanThe lightning surge characteristics of transmission line components as well as the statistical data of lightning such as the ground flash density and the stroke peak current distributions are very essential for analyzing the lightning performance of overhead power transmission lines and substations. Lightning over-voltages must be taken into account when designing a vertical tower model and the insulation system of a cable. In the world, specially in Japan various studied, therefore, have been done to measure the characteristics of the line components and to develop their equivalent circuit models for the Electromagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) simulations. EMTP has been widely used in Japan to analyze switching and lightning over-voltages to design power stations and substations from the viewpoint of insulation coordination. The Japanese standard of' high voltage testing, JEC-0102-1994, and the insulation design and the coordination of an 1 l()()-kV line of lokyo electric power company were mostly based on EMTP simulations. 'I'his research demonstrates the electromagnetic behaviour of transient i-espouse of lightning surge strike on single vertical conductor, base-broadened tower, actual tower and the control building. Vertical conductor surge responses are analysed using EMTP. The accuracy of this method is shown to be satisfactory with the simulation result based on the numerical electroiiiagnctic code (NEC-2) that were carried out on vertical tower as reduced scale model. Surge iiiipcdancc is calculated by both the vertical and horizontal stroke analyses method. In addition, line constant program of different frecuency of EMTP is also verified in the work for evaluating (lie voltage and current due o lightning surge. lhcrc have been considerations sonic methods to evaluate the transient characteristics of a tower, such as : (i) theoretical studies, (ii) simulation of reduced scale models and (iii) simulation of lill-sized tower. The simulation analysis of surge response are carried out in the several arrangements of the current lead wire: (i) vertical and at the top of vertical conductor. (ii) vertical and a little far from the top of vertical conductor, and (iii) horizontal and far from the top of vertical conductor.In all the cases, the voltage measuring wire is also placed perpendicular to the current lead wire. Each of the arrangement of the current lead wire affects the measured surge impedance of' the vertical conductor and that has been explained in this research in detail. If a travelling wave propagates along the vertical conductor at the velocity of light, the reflected wave from the ground should return to the top of the vertical conductor just after the round-tril) time of the travelling wave in the vertical conductor.In all the cases, the voltage measuring wire is also placed perpendicular to the current lead wire. MostafizurAttempts have been made in this study to examine awareness of people on HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh, using the data from field level and Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey, 2007 (BDHS). Some statistical techniques are used to investigate the significance between selected dependent and independent variables. Raising awareness of respondents about the long run effects of these diseases is the principal objective of reproductive health programs recently executed in the world. This study gives an idea about floating and frequently moving and permanent resident respondent's perception about these types of health problems. It is expected that the result of this study will play a vital role to asses the national population policy and will help policy makers to formulate better policies in order to fight against the current situation. It has been found from the survey data that about 92 percent floating respondents heard the name of HIV/ AIDS by various sources of media; On the other hand, the same amount (99.00%) frequently moving and permanent resident heard the name of HIV/AIDS by various sources of media. But 52 percent floating, 31 percent frequently moving and 28.40 percent permanent residents don't know the fearfulness of HIV/ AIDS. It is also found that uncontrolled and unsafe sexual relation is the main cause of HIV/AIDS. Also, they know only safety way to avoid HIV/AIDS is condom during intercourse. Further, all the variables (respondent's age, marital status, educational level and occupation) of contingency analysis are significantly associated with HIV/AIDS in permanent resident respondents but the same variables were not seen in floating respondents. In multivariate logistic analysis, it has found that in case of floating respondents variables like respondent's age, marital status, educational level and occupation exert the significant effect on the knowledge about the fearfulness of HIV/AIDS whereas in respect of permanent residents variables like age and marital status exert the significant effect on the knowledge about the fearfulness of HIV/AIDS. Further, the study provide a brief impression of the major findings of respondents' personal experience regarding HIV/ AIDS situation by the descriptive way through compare and evaluation with affected and non-affected respondent's personal opinion and vivid picture of respondents' perception about HIV/AIDS.Item Balancing of an Inverted Pendulum using PD Controller(Dhaka University, 2012-04-15) Hasan, Mahadi; Saha, Chanchal; Rahman, Md. Rabiual IslamBalancing of an inverted pendulum robot by moving a cart along a horizontal track is a classical problem in the field of Control Theory and Engineering, for the beginners to understand its dynamics. Several physical models can also be simplified as elastic inverted pendulums like rockets and walking robots. Many researchers have been applying different control algorithm and design techniques such as PID Controller, State Space, Neural Network, Genetic Algorithm (GA) even Particle Swam Optimization (PSO), in both digital and analog domain using various sensors. However, this can also be done by using a single potentiometer as a sensor and Proportional Derivative Controller (PD) controller as the design algorithm. The comparison or difference between the reference and the potentiometer generates control signal to drive the system. In this case, it consists of a thin vertical rod attached at the bottom, referred to as pivot point mounted on a mobile toy car. The car, depending upon the direction of the deflection of the pendulum moves horizontally in order to bring the pendulum to absolute rest. The main idea behind this control process is the use of PD (Proportional and Derivative) controller to generate signal to control the speed and direction of the motor. The only sensor used in this project was a potentiometer (pot) which was attached with the pendulum rod. The variation in its resistance causes change in voltage and afterward, it was compared with the reference voltage to generate the appropriate control signal. PROTEUS software was used for circuit simulation, frequency responses of the system were analyzed in MATLAB with different values of KP and KD. Finally, to represent the system stability, root locus diagram was drawn using MATLAB.Item Bangla Music Genre Classification using Deep Learning and Machine Learning Techniques(Daffodil International University, 2024-07-24) Ope, Khairul Islam; Rahman, Md. MostafizurThe rapid growth of digital music libraries and the volume of Bangla music has increased the need for efficient and automatic methods to categorize Bangla musical genres. This study provides a thorough examination of the development and implementation of a new Bangla Music Genre Classification model. The proposed model uses advanced machine learning techniques to analyze key elements of Bangla music compositions, allowing for accurate and efficient genre identification. The approach in this study extracts essential audio features including tempo, spectral centroid, chroma frequency, spectral rolloff, RMSE, spectral bandwidth and MFCC, from a complex dataset covering various Bangla music genres. A modern deep learning algorithm, specifically a convolutional neural network, is trained on carefully annotated data and uses these features as input. The research highlights the importance of tailoring feature extraction methods and model designs to the unique qualities of Bangla music. The model aims to improve the accuracy and cultural relevance of automated genre identification by addressing the challenges associated with the diversity within Bangla music. The model is thoroughly tested using benchmark datasets and its performance is compared with existing genre classification methods. The outcomes show how adaptable and effective the suggested method is, especially for Bangla music. This research provides a comprehensive overview of creating and applying a model for classifying Bangla music genres, offering a reliable and culturally aware solution for accurate genre classification in Bangla music. It not only addresses the technical challenges of automated genre identification but also recognizes the unique cultural aspects inherent in Bangla music.Item Book Sharing(Daffodil International University, 2020-07-19) Rahman, Md. In this era, when communication is developing rapidly, it is high time to ensure that education reaches everyone’s doorstep. There is a saying knowledge increase by sharing but not by saving. And to share knowledge book is the best thing to share. But sharing a book is not always convenient and sometimes annoying too as many of those people never return those books. This paper presents an online platform for sharing knowledge. More specifically to share and rent books and a platform to discuss books. The aim of the proposed model is to reduce the problem of sharing books and also to build a community of book readers. This system is a platform for anyone who has a book and is not using it right now and would like to share the books with someone who currently needs it. In this developing country buying books is costly and as people normally keep the book idle after reading. So, it is better to share or sell the book to someone who may need it. So, the main theme is, 'maximum use of the book, minimum use of money'. The proposed model uses the basis of regular social transactions and comprises them into a business model. It mainly focuses on the customer to the customer business model and creates a patronizing and adjuvant platform for both the user and providers. It depicts the challenges related to starting a new platform, identifying the right people, creating and interacting with people, and developing a business model in a developing country. The proposed model is deployed on an android app by which the user will find each other. Some key features are a unique login system, wallet system, my desk, location of a user, interactive chatting between users.Item Comparative analysis of efficient deep learning models for breast cancer identification using relevant genes(BRAC University, 2024-10) Saad, Md Abu; Muqset, B. M Anjum Ul; Shopnil, Chowdhury Rifat Ahmad; Rahman, Md. Mostafizur; Alam, Md AshrafulCancer remains a formidable global health challenge, with early detection critical in improving patient outcomes. In this context, applying deep learning techniques to relevant gene analysis has emerged as a promising avenue for enhancing cancer detection and diagnosis. This study presents an investigation into utilizing dimensionality reduction methods and deep learning techniques to analyze gene sequences with the primary aim of detecting breast cancer. Various dimensionality reduction techniques reduce the amplitude by selecting a subset of relevant characteristics or variables from a larger collection of available features. The selected relevant features are then transformed into meaningful representations obtained using SDAE (Stacked Denoising Autoencoder) which are used to familiarize the data with different noise and outliers. Various expert learning architectures have been studied to evaluate the effectiveness of compact functions resulting from SDAE transforms. In addition, we apply discrete classification algorithms such as SVM, ANN, and SVM-RBF to distinguish between cancer and normal samples. The primary objective is cancer detection, encompassing the identification of breast cancer in its early stages, the recurrence of cancer, and the pathological response based on the genetic data. The study contributes to the growing body of knowledge in bioinformatics and medical research. It holds the potential to translate its findings into practical clinical applications, thereby advancing our ability to combat this devastating disease. This work represents a significant step towards realizing more effective and precise cancer diagnostics, offering hope for improved patient care and outcomes in the fight against cancer.Item Contribution of Women in Homestead Agricultural Production in Rajshahi District of Bangladesh(University of Rajshahi, 2007) Chowdhury, Mst. MostafizurThe study was carried out to determine the extent of contribution of women in selected homestead agricultural activities viz. homestead vegetable cultivation, post-harvest activities, poultry raising, livestock rearing, tree plantation and fish cultivation. An attempt was made to explore relationships of 16 independent variables of the women with their contribution. The study also investigated the contributions as well as direct and indirect effects of the selected variables to women's contribution. Data were collected from a sample of 200 women of 4 villages from 2 unions of 2 Upazilas under Rajshahi District. Four villages were selected through multistage and stratified random sampling and populations were identified based on their landholding size in the study year. The farm families were categorized into marginal, small and medium farmer. Ten percent of the population was randomly selected from each category. Data were collected through interview schedule during .November 2005 to January 2006 by the researcher herself. The extent of contribution of women in ten items of each of the six selected homestead agricultural activities was measured through a three-point Likert type scale. A comparative contribution in ten selected items under each of the activities was computed using contribution index. Coefficient of correlation 'r' was computed to test relationship between the dependent and independent variables. The highest percentage of the women contributed in each of the six selected activities such as 47 percent in vegetable cultivation, 43 percent in postharvest activities, 47 percent in poultry rising, 46 percent in livestock rearing, 35 percent in tree plantation and 27 percent in fish cultivation. Comparative contribution analysis revealed that 'collection and preservation of seed', 'storing rice', 'cleaning the poultry house', 'looking after kids', 'collection of seed' and 'lime application' occupied 1st position among the items of contribution under homestead vegetable cultivation, post-harvest activities, poultry raising, livestock rearing, tree plantation and fish cultivation with contribution index of 386, 166, 376, 332, 360 and 352 respectively. Computed 'r' values indicated that age of the women had no significant relationship with their contribution in any of the five selected homestead agricultural activities except post-harvest activities. Physical fitness and family type had negative relationship with contribution in all of the activities. However, education, family size, farm size, mass extension contact, attitude towards homestead agriculture, innovativeness of the women had positive relationship with contribution of all of the activities and the relationships were significant. Three characteristics namely, education, physical fitness and training exposure of the women had significant contribution to their vegetable cultivation. These variables together explained 41.3 percent of the variation in the homestead vegetable production. While, education, training exposure and family size together explained 34.8 percent of the variation in the homestead post-harvest activities. Same as education, farm size and physical fitness also explained 22.6 percent of the variation in poultry rising. Individual extension contact, family size and farm size explained 22.1 percent of the variation in livestock rearing. Family size and farm size explained 12.6 percent of the variation in tree plantation and lastly education, farm size and training exposure explained 17.2 percent of the variation in fish cultivation. Farmers mentioned a number of problems for performing different homestead agricultural production activities. 'Lack of place in homestead area' was mentioned as the number one problem regarding homestead vegetable cultivation followed by 'un-favorable weather' in case of post-harvest activities. 'Lack of vaccine in time', 'livestock die due to disease', 'lack of suitable land' and 'religious sentiment' were the prime problems faced by the women regarding their poultry raising, livestock rearing, tree plantation and fish cultivation, respectively.Item Design and performance studies of photovoltaic hybrid power systems for remote area in Bangladesh(© University of Dhaka, 2025-03-11) Rahman, Md. This cross-sectional study was conducted among 614 students from five universities in central Bangladesh. Data were collected on demographic information, immunization history, medical and blood transfusion history through the face-to-face interview. Blood samples were collected and screened for anti-HBsAg using ELISA, HBsAg Rapid Test-cassette, and immune chromatographic test. The overall seroprevalence of HBV infection was 5.0%, and vaccination coverage was 19.2% among the participants. Students having a history of surgery (OR 11.004, 95% CI 3.211–37.707), blood transfusion (OR 5.651, 95% CI 0.965–33.068), being married (OR 4.776, 95% CI 1.508–15.127), and not being vaccinated (OR 9.825, 95% CI 1.130–85.367) were at higher risk of being infected by HBV. This study showed the endemicity of HBV infection among the Bangladeshi population. Marriage, surgical or blood transfusion history, not being vaccinated were the determinants of HBV infection within the study population. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has been lifted to a decadal average of six percent in recent time. The country has also moved forward in the realm of social indicators, despite a third person living below the socalled poverty line. Despite the development of human resource remaining in the heart of such development, still such development of human resource remain slow. Against this backdrop, this research finds the key question: can this type of development of human resource in industrial sectors enable the economy to a sustainable path required to accelerate the overall development of the country? This study is based on survey data. The study indicates that, ever increasing pressures to sustain, in the context of growing need have pushed people to engage in income generating activities. The option for people to make choices and to claim rights to decent employment has remained elusive in the context of survival and hence has been subjected to injustices and dispossession. The research work also finds that there is a huge lack of skill development programmes among all the industries. The study also reveals the association of different variables of the respondents with their income satisfaction along with industrial production. The logistic regression analysis demonstrates the significant effects of different respondent’s characteristics on their income satisfaction, their participation in the decision making process of the industry, their work place environment and their promotion status. These analytical results may helpful to the policy makers, planners and researchers in developing suitable programmes addressing the case of human resource development in industrial sectors through out the country.Item DIU Smart Car Parking System(Daffodil International University, 2021-02-18) Himel, Zahid Hasan; Rahman, Md. Smart cities are faces so many problems like that populated, traffic congestion, limited car parking facilities and road safety. We present an IOT based cloud integrated SMART CAR PARKING SYSTEM. The proposed smart parking system consist of an on site deployment of an IOT module that is used to monitor and signalize the state of availability of each single parking space. We can control it by our android operated mobile phone also. From home we can see the parking slot available or engage. Not only this but also we can monitor the each car in time,out time and parking time by sms in our phone. We implement this project by using arduino, 2G GSM module and Wi-Fi module And this is very cheap system.Item Effectiveness of Electronic Media for Sustainable Agricultural Development: An Investigation into TV Programmes(University of Rajshahi, 2015) Islam, Md. Nazrul; Rahman, Md. Mostafizur; Biswas, Dulal ChandraThe study was taken to assess the effectiveness of electronic media for sustainable agricultural development, to explore the relationship of 22 independent variables with the effectiveness of electronic media for sustainable agricultural development and to dig out the contribution of independent variables to the effectiveness of electronic media for sustainable agricultural development. Data were collected from 187farm family heads selected randomly from 1249 farm family heads of six villages of two different Union Parishad (UP) under two Upazila of Kurigram district. Primary data were collected from the farm family heads during January 2011 to June 2011 by a structured interview schedule. Selected 22 characteristics of farmers were considered as the independent variables and effectiveness of electronic media for sustainable agricultural development was the dependent variable. Variables were measured by appropriately fit measuring scale. Appropriate measuring scales were developed to measure the psychological variables also. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient (r) was computed to examine the relationships between the concerned variables. The findings showed that almost three fourths (68.45 per cent) of the respondent farmers had the medium effectiveness, less than one fifths (17.65 per cent) had high effectiveness and only 13.90 per cent had low effectiveness to utilize the electronic media for sustainable agricultural development. The findings of correlation revealed that education, family education, training experience, mass media exposure, agricultural knowledge, knowledge about sustainable agriculture, annual income, formal group affiliation/organizational participation, cosmolpoliteness, peer relationship, innovativeness, attitude toward agriculture, attitude toward television had significant positive relationships with the effectiveness of electronic media for sustainable agricultural development, but age, family size, supervision of crop production, farm size, socio-economic status, ownership of agricultural implement, risk orientation and aspiration did not show significant relationship with the effectiveness of electronic media for sustainable agricultural development. Six variables entered into the stepwise multiple regression analysis and results showed that among these variables innovativeness alone contributed more than half (53.3 per cent) of the total variation in predicting the effectiveness of electronic media for sustainable agricultural development. Training, education, sustainable agricultural knowledge, peer group affiliation and agricultural knowledge has also considerable contribution. Path analysis revealed that innovativeness, training, education, sustainable agricultural knowledge, peer group affiliation and agricultural knowledge of the respondents had substantial direct and indirect effect on the effectiveness of electronic media for sustainable agricultural development and were channeled through each other. The problem in relation to effectiveness of electronic media for sustainable agricultural development “unsuitable broadcasting time for farmers”, “limited number of agricultural television programmes”, treatment of viewers towards television only as entertainment equipment”, “available number of channel” and “lack of mechanism to measure feedback” were ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively. The suggestions from the respondents “broadcasting agricultural programmes at suitable time for the farmers”, “increasing number of agricultural television programmes”, “emphasizing the sustainability of agriculture in television programmes”, “ establishing specialized television channel for agriculture” and “counting feedback beside repeated broadcasting of agricultural programmes” were ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th an 5th respectively according to the farmer’s response for the effectiveness of electronic media for sustainable agricultural development. SakibWith the advancement of science and technology heat transfer enhancement has become an important term in the field of engineering research since the effectiveness of heat exchangers are increasing through suitable heat transfer enhancement techniques. The purpose of research paper is to increase the heat transfer coefficient by operating the heat exchangers at smaller revolution per minute. This signifies an achievement of reduction of pressure drop corresponding to less operating cost. However different researches were done by using various enhancement techniques. This study has used two types of rotating perforated twisted tape insert to observe the various heat transfer coefficient, heat transfer rate and heat transfer enhancement efficiency. One tape was fully twisted and another tape was partially twisted. The shape of the twisted tape creates turbulence flow. The turbulence flow (swirl flow) generated by twisted tape promotes greater mixing and high heat transfer coefficients. An arrangement scheme has been developed for the experimental investigation. For remarking the rate of change of heat transfer, temperature has been measured numerically through the temperature sensors with various flow rates and RPM. The volume flow rate was varied from 10.3448276 LPM to 21.045574 LPM and the rotation of the perforated twisted tape was varied from 50 RPM to 400 RPM. Experiment demonstrates the effectiveness of the results of the proposed approaches. It is shown that the suggested method of heat transfer enhancements is much more effective than existing methods, since it results in an increase in heat transfer area and also an increase in the heat transfer coefficient and reduction of cost in the industrial sectors.Item Fuel Cell Inverter System: A Sustainable Energy Source(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-11-15) Rahman, Md. New types of inverters like Z-source inverters which are efficient, EMI noise free and employed to reduce the ac output voltage fluctuation can meet these demands. This type of inverters also eliminates the necessity of additional boost converters. MostafizurThe study was conducted based on broad objective of exploring indigenous coping mechanisms for combating disaster at Koyra upazila of Khulna and Patharghata upazila of Barguna district. For attaining broad objective the study has been conducted with some important objectives (a) to know the socio demographic information of the respondents (b) to reveal the indigenous perception about disaster (c) to explore the indigenous coping mechanisms for combating disaster (d) to reveal the Governmental and NGOs mechanisms for combating disaster and (e) to draw some suggestions for improving the coping system with disaster. The study has been employed qualitative research method and selected 10 respondents for case study through using purposive sampling method and two FGDs were conducted in the study areas with community people. The findings of the study show that most of the respondents are not well educated. Most of the respondents live in house with less secured. The study reveals that almost every year disaster like flood, river bank erosion, cyclone and tidal surge hit in study areas. Disaster causes loss of property, environmental imbalance, damage of infrastructures, in word, people lead miserable life during or after disaster. Community people adopt different indigenous mechanisms for combating disastrous impact. The study indicates that people adopt these mechanisms before and after disaster. they take structural ( repairing embankment, raising homestead platform, construction of road etc) and non structural ( making people aware, tying houses with strong trees, planting disaster resilient trees, taking shelter in cyclone center during disaster, preserving food for future and dissemination of news about imminent disaster etc). The study also reveals that early warning system play crucial role in minimizing the consequences of disaster. The study found that community participation helps to lessen the negative effects of disaster. The Government and NGOs take initiative for recovering the catastrophic situation. The Government of Bangladesh take both structural and non structural mechanisms for combating disaster whereas NGOs take non structural mechanisms (making people aware, providing material services, providing training) only. The Government of Bangladesh has formulated disaster management act, policy and plan but people in the study area don’t have any idea regarding this issues. To combat or minimize the tragic circumstance of coastal belt, Government should formulate the coastal belt policy as well as implement the policy. The coastal belt should be made disaster resilient.
