Item A Meta Heuristic Search based T-way Event Driven Input Sequence Test Case Generator(United Kingdom Simulation Society, 2014) Rahman, Mostafijur; Othman, Rozmie Razif; Ahmad, R Badlishah; Rahman, Md. MijanurExhaustive testing for event driven sequence input interaction is costly and not always practicable for all types of software testing. So, an alternative technique is crucial where optimum/near optimum test case generation is key concern. This paper presents a feasible test suite generation technique using a meta heuristic search called Simulated Annealing (SA) for T-way Event Driven Input Sequence Test Case (EDISTC) Generator and abbreviated as T-way EDISTC-SA generator. The T-way EDISTC-SA technique focuses on a heuristic analysis for generating feasible and near optimum test suite(s), where a cost function carefully initiates acceptable test input sequences and a fine-tuned cooling rate with temperature takes part as an iterative perspective. We corroborate on EDISTC-SA algorithm by doing a number of experiments to achieve optimum and/or near optimum test cases from a number of test input sequences. The experimental results are tested on a real application called Embedded Network Traffic Monitoring System (ENTM). Analysis on EDISTC-SA strategy shows that the optimum test suite is found from some of the iterated solution and there is possibility to have more feasible accepted test suites. Mijanur; Ahmed, Manjur; Alee, NaufalThis study presents an enhanced Embedded Network Traffic Monitoring (ENTM) system capable of capturing and analyzing network traffic information on data networks. The system incorporates an enhanced packet probing subsystem for low end interfacing to data network. The packet analysis engine included a sophisticated memory managing scheme to tolerate considerable bursts in network traffic. Comparative experimental results showed that the ENTM system had performance comparable with well known third party tools. In order to demonstrate that resource constraints do not significantly degrade system performances, researchers implemented the packet probing subsystem on a desktop where memory and processing power were much larger. It was found that the ENTM system had only little degradation (0.5%) in performances compared to the desktop version. Requirements of low processing power and memory make the system suitable for low end and portable applications.Item An Investigation on Railway Ridership Response Under Different Scenarios(Daffodil International University, 2022-01-10) Shawon, Md. Injamul Haque; Rahman, Md. Mijanur; Rahman, Md. MahabubRailway is a mass transit system, which has high ridership potential. Compare to other competitive mode of transportation for long distance travel, train is inexpensive, takes smaller space and haul large number of passengers. Since, train has separate right of way, it does not interfere or share with other modes. Railway is an effective congestion reliving alternative. Bangladesh is a developing country and train is the most preferred public transit mode for public. It is essential to assess preference sensitivity of train. Several factors can influence train mode choice. Those are—departure time (DT), train fare (TF), travel time (TT) and service quality (SQ). The study investigated sensitivity of these factors over train ridership. We carried out a question survey on 130 passengers on two different routes, Dhaka to Sylhet and Dhaka to Rajshahi. Almost half of the passengers are income within 30-60k BDT per month. Almost 40% of the respondents are captive train rider in this study. Our study found that increase of departure time and travel time delay <30 minutes have very small influence on ridership. However, ridership decreases very rapidly with the increase of departure time and increase of travel time delay more than 30 minutes. All of the factors of ridership are linearly related with %ridership. Service quality of train is categorized into scale 1 to 4. 1 stands for AC train service with no standing passengers, whereas, 4 stands for non-AC train service with large standing passengers. Ridership declining straightly with the lowering service quality (SQ). 10% increase in departure time will decrease ridership by 14% and 10% increase in fare will decrease ridership by 6%. %Ridership has little influence, if fare increase is <50 BDT. However, if train fare increased by 100 BDT or more, the reduction of %ridership is very high and people are reluctant to travel on train. From our study since the above-mentioned factors have strong influence on train ridership, therefore, it provides fruitful information on strategic planning to promote train service.Item Assessing climate vulnerability and resilience among urban female adolescents: a study in Dhaka’s Korail slum(BRAC University, 2025-05) Syed, Md. Mijanur; Ferdaus, MuhammadAccess to safe and clean water is a critical challenge in the saline-affected coastal areas of Bangladesh, particularly during emergencies such as natural disasters. Rising sea levels, storm surges, and cyclones frequently cause salinity intrusion, contaminating freshwater supplies and exacerbating water scarcity, thereby posing a threat to public health. Conventional water delivery systems are often disrupted, leading to an increase in the incidence of waterborne diseases among local communities. Without prompt intervention, communities may resort to using contaminated water sources, resulting in health issues and socioeconomic stress. In this regard, this study aims to assess the coverage and effectiveness of existing clean water interventions in the study area during emergencies, evaluate people's knowledge, attitudes, practices, affordability, and choices regarding these options, and identify the gap between policy and practice regarding safe water options in saline-prone coastal areas. To conduct this research, a cross-sectional study was designed using a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative methods. In this regard, both primary data collected through questionnaires, key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and secondary data, sourced from relevant literature, journal articles, and government reports, are used here. Stratified random sampling for quantitative approach and purposive sampling for qualitative approach are employed to conduct the research. The study finds that access to safe water during emergencies is significantly hindered due to the limited efficacy of essential water technologies, including rainwater harvesting systems (RWHS), Pond Sand Filters (PSFs), and desalination plants, which often malfunction during disasters caused by salinity intrusion, flooding, infrastructure damage, and power outages. More than ninety-nine percent of respondents indicated a scarcity of potable water during emergencies, with women and children disproportionately burdened by the necessity of retrieving water from extensive distances. Notwithstanding the presence of community initiatives like rainwater harvesting and desalination plant, these efforts are hindered by insufficient knowledge, poor maintenance, and limited institutional support. Despite the prevalence of waterborne infections, numerous individuals refrain from pursuing clean water. Although non-governmental organizations (NGOs) significantly contribute to the establishment of water infrastructure, over fifty percent of these systems become nonfunctional during disasters. A comprehensive strategy should be formulated that incorporates implementing hybrid and climate-resilient water infrastructures, safeguarding freshwater sources, investing in mobile desalination units, enhancing community training and disaster committees, and undertaking initiatives to improve infrastructure and multi-stakeholder coordination to ensure sustainable and equitable access to safe water during emergencies.Item DEVELOPMENT OF ISOLATED SPEECH RECOGNITION SYSTEM FOR BANGLA WORDS(Daffodil International University, 2011-01-01) Rahman, Md. Mijanur; Khatun, FatemaThis research devoted to the development of Speech Recognition System in Bengali language that works with speaker independent, isolated and subword-unit-based approaches. In our work, the original Bangla speech words were recorded and stored as RIFF (.wav) file. Then these words were classified into three different groups according to the number of syllables of the speech words and these grouping speech signals were converted to digital form, in order to extract features. The features were extracted by the method of Mel Frequency Cepstrum Coefficient (MFCC) analysis. The recognition system includes direct Euclidean distance measurement technique. The test database contained 600 distinct Bangla speech words and each word was recorded from six different speakers. The development software is written in Turbo C and common feature of today’s software have been included. The development system achieved recognition rate at about 96% for single speaker and 84.28% for multiple speakersItem Efficacy of Earthworm Against Rheumatic Fever(University of Rajshahi, 2006) Rahman, Md. Mijanur; Jahan, Md. SarwarRheumatic fever is a chronic lethal disease which affects human at the age of 5-22 years. The disease if not managed properly in time it provokes heart diseases or valvular heart diseases after 10-15 years. There is no specific or selected therapy for the treatment or management of Rheumatic fever. Earthworms had been used as the potential source of medicine for treatment of many diseases related to Rheumatic fever effectively from ancient time. Accordingly, it was thought that earthworm tissue might contain certain effective medicinal compounds to cure Rheumatic fever and investigations were performed in vitro (Laboratory test) and in vivo (clinically). First of all, earthworm's extract was obtained from dry powder of one of the most common indigenous species by using successively ten different solvents through continuous hot percolation process for extraction. Diethyl ether, chloroform, methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, acetic acid, acetone, xylol and morpholine extracted out 2.89±1.23, 3.32±1.36, 16.25±3.15, 4.62±1.73, 0.86±0.29, 0.93±0.36, 1.15±0.49, 1.09±0.46, 0. 76±0.38, and 0.80±0.18 in percent by weight (mg) of the dry powder of earthworm tissue.Item SPEECH RECOGNITION FRONT-END FOR SEGMENTING AND CLUSTERING CONTINUOUS BANGLA SPEECH(Daffodil International University, 2010-01-01) Rahman, Md. Farukuzzaman; Moni, Mohammad AliThis research is concerned with the development of speech recognition front-end for segmenting and clustering continuous Bangla speech sentence to some predefined clusters. From the study of different previous research works it was observed that the front-end is an important part of any speech recognition system. In our work, the original speech sentences were recorded and stored as RIFF (.wav) file format. Then a segmentation approach was used to segment the continuous speech into uniquely identifiable and meaningful units. Among the different techniques, the word/sub-word segmentation is simple and produces very good results. This is why this technique was selected for speech segmentation to obtain improved performance. After segmentation, the segmented words were clustered into different clusters according to the number of syllables and the sizes of the segmented words. The test database contained 758 words/sub-words segmented from 120 sentences. Each sentence was recorded from six different speakers and saved as a different wave file. The developed system achieved the segmentation accuracy rate at about 95%.Item Test case generation for event driven systems using 4-way input test strategy(IEEE Xplore, 2016-04-11) Rahman, Mostafijur; Othman, Rozmie Razif; Ahmad, R Badlishah; Rahman, Md. MijanurSince 1990's Combinatorial explosion is a crucial topic in software testing domain. In this domain the exhaustive input interaction test is not practical solution to test all software configurations for generating test cases. T-way test strategy provides a solution to overcome the problem. To date, most of the research on designing methods focus on combinations of input parameter values, where the T-way test strategy is applied to generate final test cases. However the methods are not applicable for event driven systems, where inputs are tested in the ordered form. In this paper a new method is proposed on T-way strategy to generate test cases using 4-way input interaction technique. The generated test cases are compared with the existing 4-way strategies.
