    Causes and consequences of child labour in Bangladesh: An in-depth study

    The concepts of child labour and child education are inversely linked with each other in terms of execution. Child labour does not allow child education and vice versa. Between the two types of economic ideologies normative approach promote child education but other ideology i.e. positive approach have preferred child labour. It is factual that, child labour, however, become a burden for every economy. It is a serious problem in any nation. Economy never accepts child labour and the high volume of child labour creates liability on economy. Any job of children always treated as the problem of underemployment through the labour market framework and all child work are strongly prohibited by ILO. The main aims of this study find out the basic causes of children are recognized as child labour and try to know the causes behind existence a negative relationship between child education and child labour. In Bangladesh, the volume of child labour is so high, near about 4.7 million children, age limit of 5-14 years of age were economically active and percentage of labour force participation rate was 13.4 in the year 2002-03 [National Child Labour Survey (NCLS)]. On the other hand, the figure of informal activities of children is higher than above figure. If we compare with South–Asia, our labour force participation rate is higher than rest of the nations. So policy maker should concentrate to ameliorate education of children and reduce child participation in economic activity as well as unpaid work. A nation has lost huge potential resource because of the employment activities of children. If a society desire to get qualified person, they must forgo the presence of child labour in economy. Every nation as well as family would like to make his or her children as a qualified person. Although many reasons are involved in child labour but poverty are the main reason and this cause mostly appearing in Bangladesh. Child labour engages in formal and informal sector in Bangladesh. Children are working mainly in rural areas, because most of the poor and vulnerable parents live in remote villages. They do not have enough ability to take all the responsibilities of their children. Majority of the parents can only afford to offer the food and lodging but they cannot afford the educational expenses of their children. But education is the basic right of a children and only education can make him or her resourceful person and be a good quality citizen as well. But in reality, poor parents get relief when their children earn some money and accomplish the family needs. There is no alternative way to develop our nation without improving human resource development. If we want to do so, our children should get proper education and training facilities which will bring up him or her to apply in our nation building activities. Though it is a long-run achievement and poverty creates obstacle to arrive at this destination. So we need increasing role and close monitoring of government to continue child education. Government has been taken different activities to do the same. We assess the government activities of child-education and find out a way, to keep in touch on education of children. Children are vulnerable from a very young age, with the risks for boys diminishing in their mid-teens as their physical strength increases. Overall, girls are much more at risk and children with disabilities are particularly vulnerable, as they are perceived to be easy to be victims. There are different types of child abuse in different countries. In many ways, a sexually abused child is abuse twice, by the perpetrator physically, and second by society, both psychologically and socially. The matter becomes even more traumatic because the child and his family have to observe forced “silence”on the matter. It may cause lots of bad effects among our children. We can reduce it by taking same steps, especially parents and government can play main role for reducing child abuse. It should be stop for our better society. The government of Bangladesh too appears to be recognizing the growing problem and has introduced tougher laws to prevent it, though its effective implementation is yet to be seen. We need such are society where the child get enough freedom which they actually deserve. Moreover we have to ensure an environment where they get the proper care and facility. This study attempts to focus on different issues, historical perspective, current situation, causes and consequences of child labour with special reference to Bangladesh.

    Comparative Assessment of Three Medicinal Plants against Diabetes and Oxidative Stress Using Experimental and Computational Approaches

    "The hilly and rural areas’ people of Bangladesh have a great history of putting into use numerous traditional medicinal plants to cure diseases. Therefore, with ethanol extract of Molineria capitulata (EEMC), methanol extract of Trichosanthes tricuspidata (METT), and methanol extract of Amorphophallus campanulatus (MEAC), we mandate evaluation of in vitro α-amylase inhibition, antioxidants, and molecular docking, and ADMET/T analysis. According to iodine starch methods, α-amylase inhibition was performed, and quantitative total phenolic and flavonoid content was determined by established methods, whereas DPPH free radical scavenging and reducing power assays were performed in previously established protocols, respectively. A comparative study among three plants (EEMC, METT, and MEAC) possessed a significant () effect but EEMC showed the highest impact on enzyme inhibition. Plants in the measuring phenolic content METT and flavonoid measurement MEAC displayed most potent in the same way in the DPPH test was METT, and in reducing power capability MEAC has showed the highest effect between three extracts. Docking’s study also reveals the compounds of METT (Cyclotricuspidoside A and Cyclotricuspidoside C) exhibit the superior score among all the compounds. This finding indicates that EEMC, METT, and MEAC substantially impact α-amylase inhibition along with antioxidants. In silico study also reveals the potency of these plants, but further in-depth, precise molecular studies are needed.

    Comparison of procurement of non-consulting services: public procurement rules-2008 Vs World Bank guidelines

    The World Bank Guidelines and Public Procurement Rules-2008 are basically prepared for the proper guidance of the procurement at the same time it also provides legal support and a restrictive boundary for the parties involved in procurement. This dissertation mainly deals with the comparison of these two guidelines regarding procurement of nonconsulting services. In Public Procurement there are generally three procurement categories: goods, works and services. Services are classified as consulting services and non-consulting services. In some cases, they are simply classified as services because of the difficulty, at times, in clearly determining the difference. The distinguishing factor between the two, however, is the degree of importance of the measurable physical output of the requirement. This study covers those parts of the guidelines which are related to non-consulting services. In World Bank guidelines non-consulting services have been clarified and procurement process has been outlined. One sample bidding document has been published to facilitate the procurement process. On the other hand Public Procurement Rules -2008 does not clarify the non-consulting services. However there is some provision of procurement of physical services, related services and stand-alone services. It is mandatory for all the public sector procuring entities to follow the standard tender documents prepared by the CPTU, which yet not published for procurement of non-consulting services. The current scenario of procurement practice in the public sector has been studied through interviews with procurement professionals working in World Bank financed projects regarding non-consulting services. The analyses indicate that there is limited scope of procurement of non-consulting services in the current public procurement rules-2008. For WB guidelines, the current sample bidding documents needs to be update to overcome the shortcomings. And at last it can be said that the maximum guidance in the two guidelines are almost same and there are some minor difference in some specific cases and this similarity eventually helping the procuring entity to be accustomed easily with all the guidelines.

    Coxiella burnetii, the causative agent of Q fever, is an intracellular pathogen posing a significant global public health threat. There is a pressing need for dependable and effective treatments, alongside an urgency for further research into the molecular characterization of its genome. Within the genomic landscape of Coxiella burnetii, numerous hypothetical proteins remain unidentified, underscoring the necessity for in-depth study. In this study, we conducted comprehensive in silico analyses to identify and prioritize potential hypothetical protein of Coxiella burnetii, aiming to elucidate the structure and function of uncharacterized protein. Furthermore, we delved into the physicochemical properties, localization, and molecular dynamics and simulations, and assessed the primary, secondary, and tertiary structures employing a variety of bioinformatics tools. The in-silico analysis revealed that the uncharacterized protein contains a conserved Mth938-like domain, suggesting a role in preadipocyte differentiation and adipogenesis. Subcellular localization predictions indicated its presence in the cytoplasm, implicating a significant role in cellular processes. Virtual screening identified ligands with high binding affinities, suggesting the protein’s potential as a drug target against Q fever. Molecular dynamics simulations confirmed the stability of these complexes, indicating their therapeutic relevance. The findings provide a structural and functional overview of an uncharacterized protein from C. burnetii, implicating it in adipogenesis. This study underscores the power of in-silico approaches in uncovering the biological roles of uncharacterized proteins and facilitating the discovery of new therapeutic strategies. The findings provide valuable preliminary data for further investigation into the protein’s role in adipogenesis.

    Cost Analysis of Solar Roof Top System (SRS) (Under DPDC)

    This research is an attempt to measure the impacts of Solar Rooftop Systems (SRS) in Bangladesh. After a brief review of previous research works on SRS’s importance, benefits and prospect, the study mainly focuses on the issues of SRS’s impacts on energy economics. Solar energy is one of the most popular form of renewable energy. The use of solar panel is increasing rapidly all over the world. Fortunately, the location of Bangladesh is quite suitable for harnessing solar energy. The object of Thesis was to analyze the feasibility of on grid connected Rooftop system in Narangonj under (DPDC). However, large area is still uncovered either by grid electricity or by electricity generated from renewable sources. Our work was to survey the consumers total SRS and collect some Questionaries’ answers. We tried to know theirs SRS capacity, install cost, installation date and analyze the cost per unit energy. We wanted to convince them that in Bangladesh, where power generation is a huge challenge, solar rooftop system can play an important role. So, they should use the SRS in proper way.

    Domperidone: A literature based review on pharmacokinetic control using different drug delivery strategies

    Domperidone (DMP), a potent gastroprokinetic and antiemetic drug, exhibits poor aqueous solubility and extensive first-pass metabolism. Therefore, to develop its oral preparations with optimized absorption and bioavailability, the pharmacokinetic parameters of this drug need to be controlled. This study aims to discuss the physicochemical characteristics of DMP causing its unfavorable oral delivery, explore the viable oral formulation approaches such as direct compression, amorphization, micronization, thin film preparation, pelletization etc. based on their pharmacokinetic parameters for determining the most valuable strategies and to provide adequate information in developing novel alternatives to the current commercial products. In this study, some effective strategies in this regard have comparatively discussed. It has been found that the amorphous solid dispersion approach could be more convincing from the scalability perspective along with its significant improvement in dissolution behavior and oral bioavailability. Finally, some future perspectives of these strategies have been addressed to facilitate efficient formulation development.

    Investigation Into the Sea Level Rise as Fallout of Climatic Change: Case Study of the Coast of Bangladesh

    Several thousands of years have so far been elapsed since its emergence as an alluvial land, the today’s land of Bangladesh exhibits the experiences almost all the natural calamities, hazards and disasters in its geographical perspectives. Magnitudes of occurrences of the natural disasters have always been inversed and exemplified now a days due to the immense multiplications of the human population in a comparatively smaller area. Needless to say, that the pressure of ever-increasing population in Bangladesh has exerted innumerable adverse effects on the natural settings of the region and often worsening the situation appearing as some complex and intricate anthropogenic hazards and disasters in Bangladesh. To evaluate regional and local climate settings and its trend is a complicated task and should give due consideration to the consistency, homogeneity and continuity of data, unequal length of available data, outliers and extreme values in available records and appropriate statistical and mapping tools. Most of the CMIP5 and earth system model simulations for AR5 WRI were performed with prescribed CO2 concentrations reaching 421 ppm (RCP2.6), 538 ppm (RCP4.5), 670 ppm (RCP6.0) and 936 ppm (RCP 8.5) by the year 2100. In this research I found RCP4.5 a strong correlation regression R2 = 0.917 with temperature and sea level rise in Bangladesh among RCPs. Annual average mean, maximum (mean) and minimum (mean) temperature found increasing trend during 1948-2016 is 0.82 0C, 0.96 0C and 1.41 0C per century whereas in the period of 1987-2016 is 0.85 0C, 2.38 0C and 1.24 0C per century respectively; but in seasonal, period of 1948-2016 is increasing trend and period of 1987-2016 increasing and decreasing both trends are present. During 1948-2016 SNHT showed that out of 35 stations, there are 22, 21 and 19 common stations in annual average mean, maximum (mean) and minimum (mean) temperature increasing trend respectively with high significant. Decadal variation of premonsoon, monsoon, post-monsoon and winter rainfall showed that increasing trends are 52.32 mm, 210.02 mm, 26.06 mm and 4.13 mm per climatic period respectively. The annual seasonal increasing trend in the pre-monsoon, monsoon, post-monsoon and winter were found 5.21 mm, 20.93 mm, 2.61 mm and 0.39 mm/yr respectively, at the same time most of the monthly normal rainfall having the same trends. A SimCLIM simulation based on baseline 1995 temperature that, the global temperature showed the lowest and height temperature are -44.52 0C and 30.27 0C. In Bangladesh average mean, maximum (mean) and minimum (mean) temperature from baseline varied 19.00 0C-29.10 0C, 25.80 0C-34.40 0C and 12.20 0C-26.20 0C respectively and precipitation is 7.00 mm - 381.00 mm. Annual average mean, maximum (mean) and minimum (mean) temperature for observed and model projected values are 25.90 0C (baseline), 26.58 0C,vii 27.20 0C, 27.81 0C and 28.46 0C; 30.67 0C (baseline), 31.33 0C, 31.93 0C, 32.55 0C and 33.16 0C; 21.18 0C (baseline), 21.88 0C, 22.53 0C, 23.22 0C and 23.92 0C respectively by the year of baseline, 2025, 2050, 2075 and 2100. In this research I found overall mainland shoreline and island shoreline net loss/gain are -14.79 km and 579.20 km respectively. Island shoreline (positive value) bigger than mainland shoreline (negative value). 1910s-2015 mainland and island area in total net gain 1178.55 km2 and 288.75 km2 respectively. Overall Bangladesh coastal zone obtain 1467.30 km2 area in this 105 year. In this research I also found the average sea level rise rate in Bangladesh is 2.72 mm/yr whereas global average 5.87 mm/yr which is about two times more than Bangladesh average. Khepupara is the height increasing rate by 13.32 mm/yr and Sonapur is the lowest decreasing rate by -11.59 mm/yr. Three regions, Eastern rate is 2.80 mm/yr, Central rate is -1.04 mm/yr and Western rate is 6.39 mm/yr. Eastern and Western region is higher rate than Central region where Central region is negative in trend. Except Teknaf, the trend in Bangladesh average, only 1.63 mm/yr, this rate is very little compare to the global average. In this study the rise in Global Mean Sea Level for the period of 2025-2100, based on process-based models is likely to be in the range 10.33-53.33 cm for RCP 4.5, 10.00-55.33 cm for RCP 6.0 and 10.00-75.00 for RCP 8.5. If we encompass 2015 is the base year and its trend go through the same rate then in the year of 2025 Bangladesh will be reach 27.20 mm from 2015; and 2050, 2075 and 2100 will be 95.20 mm, 163.20 mm and 231.20 mm respectively. Calculate the global rate, in the year of 2025 world will reach 63.90 mm from 2015; and 2050, 2075 and 2100 will be 223.65 mm, 383.40 mm and 543.15 mm respectively

    Minimizing Maintenance Cost through Prioritizing Refactoring of Code Smells

    Code smells are indicators of poor design practices that increase complexity, reduce comprehensibility, and hinder maintainability. While they do not directly affect system functionality, their long-term presence leads to higher maintenance costs and degraded software quality. Refactoring is the primary strategy to remove or minimize code smells. However, addressing all smell types is impractical due to time, budget, and resource constraints. Thus, identifying and prioritizing the most impactful code smells is essential for efficient maintenance and sustainable evolution of software systems. Code smell prioritization in existing literature is largely system-specific and often requires significant developer intervention. In other words, prioritization is typically applied to individual systems and tends to vary across different contexts. To address this research gap, the research conducts a large-scale empirical investigation aimed at establishing a generalized prioritization of code smells based on their impact on software quality and maintainability. Thirteen common smell types were examined across 35 open-source Java projects, analyzing their relationvi ships with 25 internal software quality metrics such as size, complexity, coupling, etc. as well as two maintainability metrics such as change-proneness and faultproneness. The study also incorporated perception-based insights from developers to compare subjective judgments with metric-driven analysis, uncovering notable discrepancies between these two. Finally, the research identified those code smells that exert the most detrimental effect on program comprehensibility, which is a key factor in reducing long-term maintenance costs. The results demonstrate that code smells vary in their degree of impact. Highpriority smells include Anti Singleton, Long Parameter List, Class Data Should Be Private, and Blob. Moderate-priority smells consist of Long Method, Complex Class, Large Class, Refused Parent Bequest, and Spaghetti Code. Finally, lowpriority smells are Speculative Generality, Many Field Attributes But Not Complex, Base Class Should Be Abstract, and Lazy Class. Alignment between developers’ perceptions and system analysis was observed for 61.54% of smell types, while 38.46% diverged, highlighting the need for developers to refine prioritization strategies to minimize maintenance costs. Finally, smells such as Long Method, Spaghetti Code, Refused Parent Bequest, and Anti Singleton were found to significantly degrade comprehensibility, with a correlation coefficient of −0.56 indicating that higher impact scores reduce comprehensibility. To summarize, the contributions of this research include an empirically derived prioritization of code smells, a comparative analysis of perception-based and metric-driven prioritization, and a synthesized dataset of 74,253 smelly files across 13 types. Collectively, these findings provide practical guidance for developers to focus refactoring on the most impactful smells, improve software quality, maintainability, and reduce long-term costs, while also supporting researchers in developing innovative refactoring tools and advancing future work in code smell management.

The primary features of Medicare include an intuitive interface for patients to book and manage appointments with doctors, a scheduling system for doctors to optimize their availability, and a search functionality to find specialist doctors based on specific medical needs. In addition, Medicare provides a quick and reliable ambulance booking service and a robust network for connecting blood donors with recipients, ensuring timely and efficient blood donation processes. Built using a technology stack comprisingVisual Studio code, PHP, Java Script, jQuery, MySQL, Laravel, HTML, CSS, Medicare promises a seamless user experience across web and mobile platforms. The project also incorporates real-time tracking and notification systems. Medicare addresses the critical need for an integrated healthcare management system that simplifies access to medical services, thereby improving patient outcomes and streamlining healthcare provider operations. Future enhancements are planned to include telemedicine capabilities, health records management, advanced analytics, and multi-language support, further solidifying Medicare's role as a pivotal tool in modern healthcare.

    Preparation and characterization of Zn-Sb based high temperature solder alloys

    In this study, three different compositions of the newly developed solder alloys were selected as of Zn-1.2wt% Sb, Zn-1.7wt% Sb (Eutectic alloy) and Zn-2.2wt% Sb. The pure Zinc (Zn: purity 99.99%) ingot and pure Antimony (Sb: purity 99.98%) were procured commercially and the new Zn-based Pb-free solders were developed by doping different amounts of Sb into Zn. The samples from each composition were prepared accordingly to investigate the microstructure and mechanical properties. Then ageing was carried out of the eutectic alloy at 200 C for 250 hours and 500 hours. X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) was done as compositional analysis. The microstructures were investigated under optical microscope (OM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) for both as cast and aged samples. Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis were also conducted to analyze the composition and to identify the phase in the alloy respectively. The tensile strength, microhardness, electrical conductivity as well as the creep properties were observed systematically. Creep behavior was analyzed as the function of Vickers hardness at different time duration to observe the creep strain variation. Before ageing, the eutectic Zn-1.7wt% Sb alloy exhibited the most desired characteristics among the three alloys. Later, two samples with eutectic composition were aged for 250 hours and 500 hours at same temperature 200 C and investigated to observe the ageing effect on properties. Investigation on those three samples (as cast and aged) was narrowed down to find out Zn-1.7wt% Sb aged for 250 hours as the most appropriate high temperature solder alloy with better properties than other alloys. Creep behavior drives the most important role in longevity and reliability of performance of any solid material. The nature of application of solder alloys demands for being in high temperature as well as high stress and both of which mostly facilitate the creep deformation in structure over the time. So, an ideal high temperature solder alloy must have well enough of creep properties to sustain and perform properly for long term. In this study, eutectic Zn-1.7wt% Sb exhibited optimum creep strain over the other two alloys. Hence, eutectic Zn-1.7wt% Sb with ageing for 250 hours was found with the required optimum properties to be the appropriate Pb-free high temperature solder alloy.

    Coxiella burnetii, the causative agent of Q fever, is an intracellular pathogen posing a significant global public health threat. There is a pressing need for dependable and effective treatments, alongside an urgency for further research into the molecular characterization of its genome. Within the genomic landscape of Coxiella burnetii, numerous hypothetical proteins remain unidentified, underscoring the necessity for in-depth study. In this study, we conducted comprehensive in silico analyses to identify and prioritize potential hypothetical protein of Coxiella burnetii, aiming to elucidate the structure and function of uncharacterized protein. Furthermore, we delved into the physicochemical properties, localization, and molecular dynamics and simulations, and assessed the primary, secondary, and tertiary structures employing a variety of bioinformatics tools. The in-silico analysis revealed that the uncharacterized protein contains a conserved Mth938-like domain, suggesting a role in preadipocyte differentiation and adipogenesis.     Sustainability practice in public procurement: a study on public works department (PWD) perspective

    Sustainable procurement (SP) is procurement that is consistent with the principles of sustainable development. Sustainable procurement is an approach that takes economic, environmental and social sustainability into account when making any purchasing decision. Public procurement is concerned with how public sector organizations spend tax payers’ money. Public procurement is guided by principles of transparency, accountability, and achieving value for money for citizens and tax payers. Public Works Department (PWD) is one of the biggest public procuring agencies for government in Bangladesh. The current scenario of sustainable procurement practice in the public sector has been studied through interviews with mid level procurement professionals from Public Works Department (PWD) addressing three aspects of sustainability. The analyses indicate that although there are a few cases where some sustainability issues are in practice, these are not very common as a whole in the public sector. Existing tendering system in public sector in Bangladesh is still based on the lowest price approach and whole life costing approach is rarely considered. Hardly any procuring entity has any provision as such an environmental management system. The study indicates that at present there is virtually no mechanism in our public procurement system to check the environmental performance of contractors/ suppliers. Sustainability criteria should be embedded in the tendering system. Knowledge and awareness at the individual procurement professional level seem important in order to make suitable sustainable procurement choices. The study reveals that the respondents are lacking in such knowledge and they are not trained enough. A clear commitment is necessary from the very top of government and down through the ministries and authorities formulating a sustainable procurement policy and to align the public procurement framework with the policy. Awareness campaign should be arranged focusing on how to take account of nonmonetary benefits of sustainable procurement. Finally, there is scope to further study about the sustainability issues in procurement. Advanced research needs to be conducted in order to get a deeper insight into the sustainability issue in relation to the public procurement.
