Item Chemical, Sensory, and Microbial Assessments of Leathers Developed From Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.(Jackfruit)(Daffodil International University, 22-09-27) Rahman, Md MostafizurJackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) is one of the most popular, delicious and indigenous fruits in Bangladesh. It was originated in Indian subcontinent and now is widely cultivated in the tropics of both hemisphere. It is grown in Bangladesh, India, Mayanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and to some extent in Brazil and Queensland of Australia. It is cultivated in Bangladesh from the time of unknown period, grown throughout the country in highland and homestead areas where rain and flood water do not stand.(morton, julia -19 april 2016)(love,ken -2016) Jackfruit is considered as a national fruit of Bangladesh and it ranges the second position in yield among the fruits of the country In Bangladesh, the jackfruit occupies an area of 25,110 hectares and its annual production is 4,59,500 tons, and it is 22% of total fruit production from all over the country. (BBS, 2007) including references to technological advances, food marketing, and food regulatory norms. This term has already been defined several times and there is still no unified accepted definition for this group of foods . In most countries, there is no legal definition of the term and drawing a border line between conventional and functional foods is challenging even for nutrition and food experts.(BBS,2007) The edible pulp is 74% water, 23% carbohydrates, 2% protein, and 1% fat. The carbohydrate component is primarily sugars, and is a source of dietary fiber. In a 100- gram (3+1⁄2-ounce) portion, raw jackfruit provides 400 kJ (95 kcal), and is a rich source (20% or more of the Daily Value, DV) of vitamin B6 (25% DV). It contains moderate levels (10-19% DV) of vitamin C and potassium, with no significant content of other micronutrients.(Silver,mark april-2016)(mwandambo,pascal december 2016) Every year a lot amount of jackfruit is produced in Bangladesh. This fruit is highly perishable and seasonal Marketing of fruit in the season becomes difficult and the farmers do not get a desirable price of the commodity. If the excess fruits in the season are preserved by any means ensuring the quality, consumers would have the taste of this seasonal fruit all the year round. Again the processed fruits could be exported to earn foreign currency Drying of agricultural products is still the most widespread preservation technique At present dried fruit is becoming more and more an alternative to marketing fresh fruits as the demand of high quality dried fruits is increasing all over the world. A few years ago in rural are jackfruit acts as main seasonal fruit in summer season and a lot of people satisfy their hunger by this fruit. But the reason of its highly Perishable activity lot amount of jackfruit were rotten. Cigarette smoke contains several toxic chemicals including heavy metals particulate causing high health risks. However, limited information has been available on the health risks associated with the heavy metals in cigarettes commonly sold in the Bangladeshi market. This study evaluated the concentrations and potential health risks posed by ten concerned heavy metals in ten widely consumed cigarette brands in Bangladesh using an atomic absorption spectrometer. The concentration (mg/kg) ranges of heavy metals Pb, Cd, Cr, As, Co, Ni, Mn, Fe, Cu, and Zn vary between 0.46–1.05, 0.55–1.03, 0.80–1.2, 0.22–0.40, 0.46–0.78, 2.59–3.03, 436.8–762.7, 115.8–184.4, 146.6–217.7, and 34.0–42.7, respectively. We assume that the heavy metals content among cigarette brands is varied due to the differences in the source of tobacco they use for cigarette preparation. The carcinogenic risks posed by heavy metals follow the order of Cr > Co > Cd > As > Ni > Pb, while the non-carcinogenic risks for Cu, Zn, Fe, and Mn were greater than unity (HQ > 1), except for Fe. The existence of toxic heavy metals in cigarette tobacco may thus introduce noticeable non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic health impacts accompanying inhalation exposure. This study provides the first comprehensive report so far on heavy metal concentration and associated health risks in branded cigarettes commonly sold in Bangladesh. This study investigates the highland communities’ climate change perceptions, climatic hazards, and livelihood practices during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a multi-stage random sampling technique, survey data were gathered from 425 respondents living in highland areas of Panchagarh district, a drought-prone region in Bangladesh. Perception analysis indicates that most respondents (77%) believe their area's climate has significantly changed over the past 10 years. The bivariate and multivariate regression model results reveal that age, education, income, occupation, land ownership, and socioeconomic status substantially impact local community perceptions of climate change and climatic shocks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, land ownership, socioeconomic level, and crop sowing are also important determinants of erratic rainfall that impacts climate change and shocks during COVID-19. Emtiaj; Rahman, Md Mostafizur; Islam, Md Akhtarul; Begum, Maksuda; Rahman, Mohammad Musfiqur; Ichii, Osamu; Kon, YasuhiroSalinity intrusion into the freshwater system due to climate change and anthropogenic activities is a growing global concern, which has made humans and domesticated animals more susceptible to diseases, resulting in less productivity. However, the effects of salinity on domesticated and wild birds, especially in terms of production and immunity, have not been fully elucidated yet. Therefore, this study was designed to examine the effects of salinity on the production and immunity of birds and the mechanisms by which immunity is compromised. Broiler chicks were subjected to different concentrations of salty water (control = normal water, treatment = 5 g/L, treatment = 10 g/L, and treatment = 15 g/L). The collected blood and organs from different groups of broilers were biochemically and histopathologically examined. Birds in salt-treated groups consumed significantly less feed than the control group, while the feed conversion ratio (FCR) was significantly higher. Body weight gain was significantly lower in salt-treated groups compared to control. Serum analysis revealed a lower systemic antibody titer in the salt-treated groups compared to the control. Primary lymphoid organs (thymus and bursa of Fabricius) were reduced in size in the salt-treated group due to cellular migration and depletion from these organs. Importantly, most of the parenchyma of lymphoid organs was replaced with fibrotic tissue. Gut microbes, Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Salmonella spp., from salt-treated groups, showed less viability but developed antibiotic resistance. Levels of salinity were significantly and negatively correlated with feed intake, body weight gain, antibody titer, lymphoid organ size, and viable count of gut microbes, while FCR, fibrosis of lymphoid organs, and antibiotic resistance were significant positively correlated. In conclusion, increased salinity is a possible threat to food security and safety as it decreases body weight gain, reduces immunity, and influences the development of multi-drug resistance in gut microbes.
